About the Role
The Yatra Guide is responsible for ensuring a seamless, spiritually enriching, and well-organized pilgrimage experience for devotees. The role involves planning, coordinating, guiding, and managing pilgrims throughout the journey while providing accurate information about the spiritual significance of temples and holy places. The Yatra Guide serves as the primary point of contact for pilgrims before, during, and after the yatra.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sthalapurana Narration
- Deliver engaging and authentic narrations on the history, mythology, and spiritual significance (Sthalapurana) of temples and pilgrimage destinations.
- Share information on local traditions, customs, festivals, and rituals.
- Answer pilgrims' questions related to the destinations and religious practices.
- Ensure the information shared is accurate, respectful, and culturally appropriate.
2. Pre-Yatra Planning
- Coordinate with the Operations team to understand the itinerary and travel arrangements.
- Review accommodation, transportation, meals, and temple visit schedules before departure.
- Brief pilgrims about the itinerary, travel guidelines, packing essentials, safety measures, and expected conduct.
- Verify participant details and ensure all necessary travel documents and arrangements are in place.
3. On-Yatra Responsibilities
- Lead and accompany pilgrims throughout the journey.
- Ensure timely movement according to the itinerary.
- Coordinate hotel check-ins, meal arrangements, transportation, and temple visits.
- Maintain discipline, safety, and comfort of all participants.
- Handle emergencies, unforeseen situations, and customer concerns effectively.
- Ensure elderly pilgrims and those requiring special assistance receive appropriate support.
- Monitor attendance and maintain accurate headcounts during travel.
4. Communication and Coordination
- Act as the primary communication link between pilgrims, drivers, hotels, local vendors, temple authorities, and the Operations team.
- Provide regular updates regarding schedules, delays, and itinerary changes.
- Build positive relationships with local service providers.
- Resolve customer issues professionally while maintaining a high standard of service.
5. Administrative Duties
- Maintain records of attendance, expenses, receipts, and other required documentation.
- Manage petty cash and ensure accurate accounting of expenses incurred during the trip.
- Submit daily reports to the Operations team as required.
- Ensure company policies and operational procedures are followed throughout the journey.
6. Post-Yatra Responsibilities
- Submit expense statements and supporting documents.
- Prepare and submit a Yatra completion report highlighting operational observations, customer feedback, and improvement suggestions.
- Coordinate the return of company assets and documents.
- Participate in review meetings to improve future pilgrimage experiences.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in regional languages such as Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi is preferred.
- Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to remain calm and solve problems under pressure.
- Good knowledge of pilgrimage destinations, Indian culture, traditions, and local practices.
- Basic accounting and budget management skills.
- Customer-focused approach with a commitment to service excellence.
- High level of integrity, discipline, and accountability.
- Patience and the ability to effectively manage diverse groups of pilgrims.
- Physically fit to undertake long-distance travel and extended working hours.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Relevant experience in tour operations, pilgrimage management, hospitality, or customer service is an advantage.
- Fresh candidates with excellent communication skills and strong knowledge of spiritual destinations may also be considered.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Based in Bengaluru, Chennai, or Hyderabad.
- Passion for Indian culture, spirituality, and pilgrimage tourism.
- Willingness to travel extensively across India.
- Flexible to work on weekends, holidays, and extended travel schedules.
- Positive attitude with excellent people management skills.
