Position Overview
The Social Media Intern will support the Communications and Marketing team in managing and growing The New School’s online presence. This full-time role offers hands-on experience in digital marketing, content creation, and community engagement. The intern will work closely with and assist the school's social media manager, who oversees all online posts and digital content strategy. The intern will assist in developing creative campaigns that reflect the school’s values and connect with students, parents, alumni, and the wider community.
Key Responsibilities
· Capture and edit photos and short videos for digital use
· Assist in planning, creating, and scheduling content across social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.)
· Support the development of social media campaigns aligned with school events, initiatives, and announcements
· Monitor social media channels for engagement, respond to comments and messages, and track audience interactions
· Conduct research on social media trends, competitor activity, and audience insights
· Collaborate with the design and communications teams to ensure brand consistency
· Prepare weekly and monthly reports on social media performance metrics
· Assist in live coverage of school events and activities
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree (completed or in progress) in Marketing, Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, or a related field
· Strong understanding of major social media platforms and current digital trends
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Basic graphic design and video editing skills (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools preferred)
· Creative mindset with attention to detail and visual storytelling
· Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
· Enthusiasm for education, youth engagement, and community building
Preferred Skills
· Experience managing social media accounts for an organization, club, or brand
· Familiarity with analytics tools such as Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics, or Hootsuite
· Photography or videography experience
Work Schedule
Full-time, Monday to Friday, with occasional evening or weekend work during school events.
Compensation
Competitive stipend or salary commensurate with experience.
