At Gigamon, our purpose is to protect the hybrid networks and data of the largest, most complex organizations on the planet. Certified as a Great Place to Work, we offer a deep observability pipeline that efficiently delivers network-derived intelligence to cloud, security, and observability tools. This helps our customers to eliminate security blind spots, optimize network traffic, and dramatically reduce tool cost and complexity, enabling them to better secure and manage their hybrid cloud infrastructure. Gigamon has served more than 4,000 customers worldwide, including over 80 percent of Fortune 100 enterprises, 9 of the 10 largest mobile network providers, and hundreds of governments and educational organizations.
As a Principal Hardware Engineer at Gigamon, you will play a key role in the design and development of advanced board-level hardware for next-generation networking products. You will work as part of a small, global engineering team, partnering closely with product management and cross-functional engineering teams to translate product requirements into robust system designs. This role spans architecture, design, validation, and production support for high-performance hardware platforms. You will also help drive technical excellence by mentoring junior engineers and contributing across the full product lifecycle.
Define system architecture and high-level design concepts for new board-level and hardware platforms.
Design, develop, and validate board and system-level circuits across digital and analog technologies.
Lead conceptual design activities, including component selection, design simulation, schematic capture, and PCB design rule definition.
Provide guidance and support for board layout, board bring-up, system debug, and design verification.
Investigate, qualify, and support the release of new optical communication technologies.
Partner with product management and engineering teams to translate customer and product requirements into hardware solutions.
Manage prototype builds with contract manufacturers and JDM/ODM partners.
Execute test protocols, document results, and support environmental testing and production readiness.
Support existing products through design updates, issue resolution, and lifecycle management.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the growth of the hardware engineering team.
Earned a BS in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent discipline; an MS is preferred.
Built 15+ years of relevant hardware design experience, including the design of networking products or closely related systems.
Demonstrated expertise in board-level circuit design and development for high-speed digital and analog systems.
Applied strong experience in high-speed bus design, signal integrity analysis, and Ethernet technologies, including IEEE 802.3.
Developed deep knowledge of 100G PAM4 board design, including signal integrity and power integrity considerations.
Designed low-noise, high-efficiency on-board power regulation circuits.
Built strong board-level debug and verification skills using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and programmers.
Written product specifications, test plans, and test procedures.
Used schematic capture tools such as DxDesigner; experience with Broadcom switching silicon is a plus.
