SERVER ADMINISTRATOR — LINUX INFRASTRUCTURE, HOSTING & SECURITY SUPPORT

ABOUT US
We run a growing set of company websites and SaaS products, including a live platform that handles real financial transactions. Right now that's 30+ sites, each sitting on its own separate server, and several of them under regular attack from bots, scrapers and hackers.
THE ROLE
This role handles the daily reality of our server infrastructure — migrating sites, setting up access, keeping servers patched and monitored, following a locked-down hardening checklist. The bigger security calls — how we respond to a live attack, how access is architected, how approval workflows are designed — go through senior review before they ship. This is how the work actually gets done and stays done, every single day.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Migrate websites off separate servers onto shared, isolated hosting, one site at a time, without downtime
- Set up and maintain a separate cPanel/SSH login per developer and team — no shared credentials, ever
- Follow our Ubuntu/Apache hardening checklist — SSH lockdown, 2FA setup, authorized_keys checks, scheduled credential rotation
- Maintain Cloudflare rules — rate limiting, WAF custom rules, ASN/bot blocking — tuning them as attack patterns change, under guidance
- Keep access logs clean and tamper-proof, and flag anything unusual the same day
- Support the approval workflow for sensitive actions — like withdrawals — on our live financial platform (you run it, you don't design it)
- Monitor servers daily and escalate anything that looks like an active attack immediately
- Keep our stack (Laravel 13, PHP 8.5, MySQL 9.6, Node.js 22) patched and properly configured
- Track hosting cost and flag sites that don't need dedicated resources
- Document every server, every credential, every access grant — so none of it lives only in your head
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- 2+ years hands-on with Linux servers — real production exposure, even junior-level
- Working knowledge of Apache and Ubuntu server administration
- Some exposure to Cloudflare or a similar CDN/WAF — rate limiting, DNS, basic rules
- Comfortable following a security checklist exactly — this is not a role for guessing
- Basic familiarity with a Laravel/PHP/MySQL/Node.js stack, enough to not break things
- Has set up or maintained more than one server or site, not just one personal project
- Honest about what you don't know — escalates fast instead of experimenting on a live server
- Prefers free or low-cost tools over expensive ones wherever they do the job just as well
BONUS POINTS
- Cloudflare WAF or rate-limiting experience specifically
- cPanel/WHM hosting experience — multi-site, multi-user setups
- Any exposure to fintech, crypto or payments infrastructure
- Basic Bash scripting

- Not the final word on security decisions — major calls go through senior review
- Not IT helpdesk or desktop support
- Not application development — you're hosting and protecting the app, not building it
