Job Title: Metrology & Document Technician – Mechanical (Quality)
Department: Mechanical – QC & QA
Reporting To: Manager – Quality (Mechanical)
Job Purpose:
High‑precision dimensional measurement, calibration control, and stringent document management in compliance with IS & AS standards. The role ensures accuracy, traceability, and documentation integrity to meet AS 9100, Customer, and regulatory requirements for safety‑critical mechanical components.
Key Responsibilities:
Metrology & Measurement Responsibilities
Perform dimensional inspection of mechanical components using precision measuring instruments such as:
Vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators, bore gauges etc.
Surface roughness testers, hardness testers, profile projectors, and CMMs (as applicable)
Gauging (TPG/TRG/PPG/PRG/Snag gauges etc.)
Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
Conduct Measurement System Analysis (MSA), including GR&R studies.
Manage calibration activities for inspection and test equipment in accordance with AS 9100 and ISO 9001:
Prepare and monitor calibration schedules
Coordinate internal and external calibration activities
Verify calibration certificates and traceability
Identify and report measurement discrepancies or non‑conformances.
Support root cause analysis related to measurement and inspection issues.
Support First Article Inspection (FAI) and AS 9102/9100 requirements
Maintain measurement and calibration records in compliance with quality standards.
Coordinate internal, customer, and third party inspections.
Assist during internal, customer, and third‑party audits.
Document Control Responsibilities:
Control and maintain Quality documents, including:
SOPs, Work Instructions, Inspection , Test & Control Plans
Quality manuals, formats, check sheets, and records
Mechanical drawings and specifications
Ensure documents are properly reviewed, approved, issued, revised, and archived as per document control procedures.
Maintain document master lists and revision history.
Ensure only the latest approved documents are available at points of use.
Manage customer and regulatory documents and ensure compliance.
Maintain record retention and traceability as per company and standard requirements.
Support audit activities related to documentation and quality records.
Assist in preparation and maintenance of documentation for APQP, PPAP, and quality submissions.
Qualifications:
Education:
BE / BTech in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
Certification in Metrology is an added advantage
Experience:
4-7 years of experience in mechanical quality, metrology, or document control
Experience in manufacturing or precision engineering environment preferred
Experience in defence manufacturing industry preferred
Skills & Knowledge:
Strong understanding of mechanical measurement and inspection techniques
Knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawings
Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, MSA, SPC
Exposure to defence, aerospace, or precision manufacturing industries
Familiarity with calibration systems and traceability requirements
Hands‑on experience with mechanical measuring instruments
Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and electronic document management systems (EDMS)
High attention to detail and organizational skills
Good communication and documentation skills
Work Environment:
Combination of shop‑floor and office-based work
Handling precision measuring equipment
Support for audits and project deadlines as required
