About the Role
We are looking for an active and reliable Purchase Officer to manage procurement for our educational institution and central kitchen operations in New Perungalathur, Chennai. This role blends office administration with local field travel to source high-quality school supplies and fresh kitchen commodities daily.
If you have experience in bulk food/groceries purchasing, vendor management, and are ready for regular local travel, this role is a perfect fit.
Key Responsibilities
- Central Kitchen Procurement: Sourcing and purchasing bulk kitchen requirements, including fresh vegetables, groceries, dairy, provisions, and commercial kitchen equipment from local wholesale markets.
- School Supply Sourcing: Procurement of daily school necessaries, stationeries, maintenance items, uniforms, printing materials, and classroom assets.
- Field Travel & Direct Sourcing: Traveling to wholesale hubs, local markets, and suppliers across Chennai to inspect goods directly and secure the best wholesale pricing.
- Vendor & Rate Negotiation: Negotiating competitive contract rates, delivery timelines, and credit terms with reliable food and material vendors.
- Logistics Coordination: Arranging and monitoring the daily transport of materials from markets directly to the central kitchen and school storage units.
- Billing & Expense Tracking: Managing cash purchases accurately, collecting physical invoices, and maintaining immaculate records for daily reimbursement.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Travel Readiness: Must possess a valid driving license and own a two-wheeler for daily local purchasing and market visits.
- Experience: 2 to 5 years of experience in procurement, preferably in schools, hotels, catering services, or central kitchen environments.
- Skills: Excellent bargaining, local market navigation, and communication skills. Fluency in Tamil is mandatory to communicate effectively with local wholesalers.
- Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of MS Excel or billing software to track daily institutional expenses.
- Locality: Candidates residing near New Perungalathur, Tambaram, Vandalur, or Chromepet are preferred.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
