Role Overview
The engineer will develop and deliver optimized machining process plans and CNC programs for prismatic and powertrain components. The role requires hands-on experience in machining methods, NX CAM programming, tooling validation, manufacturing documentation, and independent coordination with program and manufacturing engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Review component, tooling, fixture, machine and manufacturing inputs with relevant engineering stakeholders.
- Develop high-level machining process plans and detailed operation sequences.
- Create machining process plans and generate CNC programs using NX CAM / NX Manufacturing.
- Prepare cycle-time charts and support estimation of the optimized number of machines for the required production volume.
- Develop and optimize CNC programs for milling, drilling, tapping and related machining operations.
- Review 2D drawings and 3D models of parts, fixtures, adapter plates, tools and machine assemblies.
- Validate cutting-tool drawings and provide technically sound feedback.
- Create required sections and manufacturing views and support GD&T detailing in drawings.
- Maintain engineering data and applicable documentation in Teamcenter or an equivalent PLM environment.
- Review outputs with manufacturing and program engineers, incorporate feedback and support final release.
- Prepare weekly progress summaries, issue reports, recommendations and supporting engineering documentation.
- Update applicable work instructions, procedures and checklists based on approved changes and lessons learned.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of machining processes, including milling, drilling, tapping and related operations.
- Practical knowledge of machining parameters, feeds, speeds, tolerances and cycle-time optimization.
- Sound knowledge of machine tools, cutting tools, fixtures and manufacturing fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience with NX CAM and NX CAD; exposure to Teamcenter and AutoCAD is preferred.
- Good understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T and their application in manufacturing.
- Ability to interpret 2D drawings, 3D CAD models and supplier-provided STEP/STP data.
- Ability to develop, validate and deliver CNC programs independently.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing quality checks, configuration control and document release processes.
Experience and Qualification
- 4–6 years of relevant experience in machining process planning, CNC programming or manufacturing engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Production, Automobile Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience supporting automotive, powertrain, industrial machinery or comparable precision-manufacturing programs is preferred.
