Job Title: Restaurant Hostess / Host Reports To: Restaurant Manager / Shift Supervisor Department: Front of House (FOH) Position Type: Full-time or Part-time (Includes weekends and evenings) Job Summary The Hostess is responsible for greeting guests, managing reservations, seating customers, and maintaining an organized waitlist during peak hours. By efficiently balancing table rotations and collaborating with servers, the Hostess ensures a smooth, welcoming transition from the front door to the dining table. Key Responsibilities Guest Welcome & Seating: Greet incoming guests with a warm, professional smile. Escort them to their tables, present menus, introduce their server, and ensure they are comfortably settled. Reservation & Table Management: Manage the reservation system (whether digital or a traditional logbook). Answer phone calls politely to take bookings, handle inquiries, and confirm event times. Pacing the Floor: Monitor the status of all tables (dirty, occupied, resetting). Rotate seating fairly among server sections to prevent any single server from getting overwhelmed, ensuring a steady rhythm for the kitchen. Waitlist Management: Provide accurate wait-time estimates to walk-in guests during busy shifts. Record names and contact info, and manage the waiting area gracefully to keep guests happy while they wait. Farewell & Final Impression: Thank guests sincerely as they leave, gather brief feedback on their experience, and invite them back. FOH Organization: Keep the host stand, entrance area, and menus clean, sanitized, and organized. Assist with light cleaning or wiping down tables if the floor gets exceptionally busy.
