We are looking for a strong and practical Production Head who can lead plant operations, manage people, support production planning, and troubleshoot day-to-day manufacturing issues. He will oversee the entire department and will have all plant heads working under him.
Role Overview
The Production Head will be responsible for overseeing manufacturing operations across three unit operations / production sections.
The candidate should be hands-on, technically strong, safety-focused, and capable of leading production teams on the shop floor.
This role requires someone who can manage batch execution, coordinate with other departments, solve plant-level problems, maintain production discipline, and ensure safe and timely manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day production activities across three manufacturing unit operations / production sections.
Ensure smooth execution of batch processes from raw material charging to final product handover.
Monitor reactions, heating, cooling, filtration, centrifugation, drying, packing, and cleaning activities.
Support daily, weekly, and monthly production planning.
Check availability of raw materials, equipment, utilities, manpower, packing material, and QC support before starting batches.
Coordinate with Stores, QC, QA, EHS, Maintenance, R&D, and Dispatch for smooth plant operations.
Ensure batches are manufactured as per approved process instructions, batch sheets, SOPs, and safety procedures.
Track batch progress, delays, yield, quality issues, equipment availability, and manpower utilization.
Troubleshoot production problems such as slow filtration, drying delays, low yield, colour issues, impurity issues, abnormal reaction behaviour, and batch deviations.
Take timely decisions during plant problems while ensuring safety, quality, and compliance.
Support scale-up from R&D / pilot batches to commercial production.
Improve batch cycle time, yield, plant productivity, and process efficiency.
Reduce wastage of raw materials, solvents, utilities, manpower, and consumables.
Ensure safe handling of hazardous chemicals, acids, solvents, and reactive materials.
Enforce PPE, permit-to-work, line clearance, equipment isolation, housekeeping, and emergency procedures.
Conduct toolbox talks and guide operators on safe working practices.
Maintain ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 discipline in production areas.
Ensure proper completion of batch records, production logbooks, cleaning records, equipment logbooks, shift reports, and deviation records.
Lead production officers, shift in-charges, operators, helpers, and contract workers.
Allocate manpower properly based on batch priority and plant workload.
Train production staff on process steps, SOPs, safety practices, documentation, and emergency response.
Maintain discipline, accountability, cleanliness, and strong communication between shifts.
Required Qualification
B.Sc. / M.Sc. Chemistry, Diploma Chemical, or B.Tech Chemical Engineering preferred.
Minimum 8 to 12 years of experience in chemical manufacturing.
At least 3 to 5 years of experience in a production leadership or supervisory role.
Experience in specialty chemicals, fine chemicals, pharmaceutical intermediates, API intermediates, agrochemical intermediates, dyes, pigments, or similar batch chemical manufacturing is preferred.
Required Skills
Strong knowledge of batch chemical manufacturing.
Experience in handling reactors, centrifuges, ANFDs, dryers, pumps, vacuum systems, scrubbers, and utilities.
Knowledge of reaction monitoring, filtration, drying, crystallization, neutralization, distillation, and packing operations.
Ability to manage multiple production sections at the same time.
Strong troubleshooting ability on the shop floor.
Good manpower handling and leadership skills.
Strong safety awareness and understanding of hazardous chemical handling.
Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, production documentation, and audit readiness.
Ability to coordinate with QC, QA, EHS, Maintenance, Stores, R&D, and Dispatch.
Preferred Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate should be hands-on and plant-oriented.
He should be able to lead from the shop floor, not only from the office.
He should be able to control operators, guide shift staff, solve production problems, and take ownership of daily manufacturing targets.
He should be practical, disciplined, safety-conscious, and capable of maintaining production quality, documentation, and housekeeping.
He should be comfortable working in a fast-paced specialty chemical manufacturing environment.
Location Requirement
Candidate should be from Boisar, Tarapur, Palghar, or nearby areas.
Candidate must be able to commute daily to MIDC Tarapur, Boisar.
