Lead Hardware Engineer
Analog & Mixed-Signal · Medical Wearables | Full-Time | Chennai (On-site)
Job Summary
RhythmRx is hiring a Lead Hardware Engineer to own analog and mixed-signal design across our portfolio of connected medical wearables and body-worn vital-sign monitors — from compact wrist-worn cellular devices to thin, flexible cardiac patches. You will lead circuit design and architecture from concept through R&D, prototyping, pre-production, and design transfer, working across products at every stage of the lifecycle — early R&D, pre-production, regulatory clearance, and devices already in the field. The role pairs hands-on schematic and signal-chain work with technical leadership: owning design reviews, mentoring a small hardware team, and serving as the analog/mixed-signal reference point in a regulated medical-device environment.
Key Responsibilities
Circuit Design & Architecture
- Own schematic design and circuit architecture for biopotential, optical, and environmental sensing across wearable and patch form factors.
- Design low-noise biopotential ECG front-ends across single- and multi-channel configurations, plus respiration/bioimpedance acquisition.
- Architect optical (PPG/SpO₂), temperature, and cuffless blood-pressure signal chains, balancing fidelity against power and size.
- Select MCUs/SoCs and sensor ICs; define the mixed-signal architecture and sensor-integration strategy.
Power & System Design
- Design Li-Po power architectures — fuel gauging, multi-rail regulation, and sleep-mode current budgeting for multi-day battery life.
- Drive low-power architecture decisions and full system-level current budgets.
- Partner with PCB layout on placement, signal integrity, and EMC-aware design.
Bring-up, Validation & Compliance
- Lead board bring-up, debug, characterisation, and design validation.
- Own EMC pre-compliance and ESD/EOS protection strategy.
- Document design rationale and support DHF and regulatory submissions.
Leadership
- Lead and mentor junior hardware, R&D, and firmware engineers; own design reviews and technical quality across the team.
- Coordinate hardware deliverables and act as the analog/mixed-signal technical interface for cross-functional stakeholders.
- Partner with firmware, mechanical, and regulatory teams to align electronics with system and certification requirements.
Requirements
- 6+ years of hands-on hardware design, with significant experience in medical, wearable, or connected-health electronics (flexible for an exceptional candidate).
- Proven expertise in low-noise analog and mixed-signal design — biopotential AFEs (e.g., TI ADS129x, AD8232 or equivalent), instrumentation amplifiers, and ADCs.
- Experience with optical and multi-sensor front-ends — PPG/SpO₂, temperature, and integration of multiple physiological sensors.
- Strong low-power design skills — Li-Po management, fuel gauging, multi-rail regulators, and sleep-mode current budgeting.
- Experience with Cortex-M MCUs/SoCs and communication interfaces including I²C, SPI, UART, and USB.
- Bench equipment proficiency — oscilloscope, spectrum/network analyser, source meter, JTAG/SWD, and biopotential simulators (e.g., Fluke ProSim).
- Working knowledge of IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2 (EMC), ISO 14971 (Risk Management), and IPC Class 3.
- Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring engineers and conducting design reviews.
- B.E. / M.E. in Electronics or Electrical Engineering.
- English — mandatory; Tamil — preferred.
Preferred Experience
- Cuffless blood-pressure or other advanced biosignal estimation.
- Experience working within ISO 13485 quality-system environments and awareness of IEC 62304 (firmware-adjacent).
- Cellular IoT (LTE-M) or eSIM-based device architectures at the system level.
- Ultra-compact wearable form factors and stacked/flex-rigid PCB designs.
- Exposure to FDA 510(k), CE-MDR, or CDSCO technical-file preparation.
- Pilot builds, DFM, and design transfer with EMS partners.
- Familiarity with applicable IEC 60601-2 series particular standards.
