Job Summary
The Commis Chef I & II will be responsible for assisting in the preparation and execution of Continental and Italian dishes, maintaining kitchen hygiene, ensuring timely service, and supporting senior chefs during daily operations. The ideal candidate should have hands-on restaurant experience and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced café environment. The role aligns with standard responsibilities for Commis Chefs in hospitality kitchens, including food preparation, kitchen operations, and adherence to food safety practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook Continental, Italian, and café menu items as per standard recipes.
- Prepare pastas, sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, salads, breakfast dishes, sauces, soups, and appetizers.
- Perform daily mise en place before service.
- Ensure consistency in taste, portioning, and presentation.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen workstations, equipment, and storage areas.
- Follow food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards.
- Store and label ingredients correctly using FIFO practices.
- Assist the Chef de Partie and Sous Chef during peak service hours.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the senior chef.
- Minimize food wastage and support inventory control.
- Ensure kitchen equipment is handled safely and maintained properly.
- Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to achieve service excellence.
Candidate Requirements
- 3–4 years of experience as a Commis Chef in a restaurant, café, or hotel.
- Good knowledge of Continental and Italian cuisine.
- Hands-on experience with pasta preparation, sauces, grilling, sandwiches, burgers, and breakfast menus.
- Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards.
- Ability to work under pressure and during busy service periods.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Positive attitude, discipline, and willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualification
- Diploma or Degree in Hotel Management or Culinary Arts preferred.
- Knowledge of kitchen SOPs and food cost control is an added advantage.
