About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Team Lead – Design Engineer (Mechanical) to lead mechanical engineering and product design activities across multiple automation and automotive engineering projects. The ideal candidate should possess strong expertise in mechanical design, technical leadership, product development, and cross-functional collaboration while mentoring engineering teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, and innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design and engineering activities from concept development through production.
- Review and approve 2D drawings, 3D CAD models, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) from prototype to production.
- Provide technical leadership through design reviews, engineering calculations, FEA validation, and design approvals.
- Plan, allocate, and monitor engineering tasks to ensure timely project delivery within quality and cost targets.
- Ensure product designs comply with engineering standards, customer specifications, and applicable international codes.
- Coordinate technical discussions with global engineering teams and customers regarding design feasibility and project execution.
- Collaborate closely with Electrical, Controls, Automation, Manufacturing, and Virtual Commissioning teams.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions for design, manufacturing, and field-related issues.
- Drive process improvements, engineering standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage engineering documentation, engineering change requests (ECR/ECO), and product lifecycle activities.
- Mentor, coach, and develop team members through technical guidance, performance reviews, and skill development plans.
- Promote design reuse, best engineering practices, and engineering excellence across projects.
Required Skills & Technical ExpertiseMechanical Design
- Product concept development and detailed mechanical design.
- Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Cost (DFC).
- Engineering calculations and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Material selection and manufacturing process knowledge.
- Design validation using Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
Engineering Standards
Hands-on knowledge of:
- ISO
- ASME
- DIN
- ASTM
- BIS Standards
Software Expertise
Must have experience in:
- Autodesk Inventor 2026
- SolidWorks 2025
- AutoCAD 2026
- SAP (BOM Management)

Project Experience (Mandatory)
Candidates must have hands-on experience in:
- Powertrain Assembly Lines
- End-of-Line (EOL) Testing Equipment

Leadership & People Management
- Lead and mentor a team of mechanical design engineers.
- Conduct technical reviews and engineering approvals.
- Deliver technical training and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Coordinate with suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders.
- Present engineering solutions during customer design reviews.
- Drive collaboration across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 11–12 years of relevant experience in Mechanical Design Engineering.
- Proven experience as a Technical Lead or Team Lead in an Engineering Design environment.
