Job Title: Dialysis Technician
A dialysis technician operates and maintains hemodialysis equipment to filter waste and excess fluids from the blood of patients with kidney failure, working under the supervision of registered nurses or physicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Preparation: Assembling, testing, and sterilizing dialysis machines and tubing before and after treatments.
- Patient Monitoring: Measuring vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse) and checking patient weight before, during, and after the procedure.
- Treatment Support: Connecting and disconnecting patients to the machine, and occasionally assisting with needle insertion (cannulation) depending on local training and regulations.
- Safety & Troubleshooting: Watching for adverse reactions or medical emergencies during treatment and troubleshooting equipment alarms.
- Record Keeping: Documenting vital signs, machine settings, and treatment outcomes in patient files.
Work Environment
- Found in hospitals, outpatient dialysis clinics, and specialized care centers.
- Involves standing for long periods, active movement, and direct patient interaction.
- Requires strict adherence to infection-control and sanitization protocols.
