Job Summary
The Senior Pharmacist is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the hospital pharmacy, ensuring safe and effective dispensing of medications, maintaining inventory control, supervising pharmacy staff, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and hospital standards. The role requires strong clinical knowledge, leadership skills, and a commitment to patient safety.
Key ResponsibilitiesPharmacy Operations
- Supervise the dispensing of medications in accordance with physicians' prescriptions and hospital policies.
- Verify prescription accuracy, dosage, drug interactions, and contraindications.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and distribution of medicines and pharmaceutical products.
- Maintain adequate stock levels and prevent shortages of essential medications.
- Monitor expiry dates and ensure timely disposal of expired or damaged drugs.
- Ensure compliance with pharmacy regulations, licensing requirements, and hospital protocols.
Inventory Management
- Manage procurement and inventory control of medicines and consumables.
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors for timely procurement.
- Conduct regular stock audits and reconciliation.
- Monitor fast-moving, slow-moving, and non-moving inventory items.
- Maintain records of controlled and scheduled drugs as per legal requirements.
Clinical & Patient Care
- Provide medication counseling to patients and caregivers.
- Educate patients regarding dosage, administration, side effects, and precautions.
- Support physicians and nursing staff with drug information and medication-related queries.
- Promote rational use of medicines and patient safety initiatives.
Team Management
- Supervise and guide pharmacists, pharmacy assistants, and support staff.
- Prepare duty rosters and ensure adequate staffing coverage.
- Train new employees on pharmacy procedures and hospital policies.
- Conduct performance monitoring and support staff development.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate records of dispensing, inventory, and procurement activities.
- Ensure compliance with NABH standards and hospital quality requirements.
- Participate in audits, inspections, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Prepare pharmacy-related reports as required by management.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) or Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm).
- Valid Pharmacist Registration with the State Pharmacy Council.
- Additional qualifications in hospital pharmacy or pharmacy management are an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience in hospital pharmacy operations.
- Experience in managing pharmacy inventory and supervising staff preferred.

Pay: ₹10,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
