The Design Engineer – Traction Gear Box will work as part of the mechanical engineering team to support the design and development of traction gear box components and assemblies. The role ensures that designs are safe, robust, manufacturable and suitable for railway operating conditions including shock, vibration, thermal loading and long service life. The engineer will also support documentation design, engineering changes, supplier development, prototype build and validation activities.
You’ll make a difference by
- Design mechanical components and assemblies for traction gear boxes used in locomotive, EMU and metro applications.
-
Develop robust designs suitable for railway application, including shock, vibration, temperature variation, lubrication and long-life durability requirements.
-
Prepare and maintain design deliverables such as 3D models, manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, calculations, technical documents and change records.
-
Perform gear design checks, bearing selection support, shaft and housing assessment, tolerance stack-up analysis and design verification activities.
-
Select appropriate materials, manufacturing processes and surface treatment requirements to achieve high reliability, durability and serviceability.
