Job Summary
The Costing Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for rolling stock projects, including coaches, EMUs, locomotives, metro cars, and railway components. The role involves analyzing technical specifications, preparing Bills of Materials (BOM), estimating manufacturing costs, coordinating with engineering and procurement teams, and supporting tender submissions.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed cost estimates for rolling stock and railway projects.
Review customer specifications, drawings, and tender documents.
Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOM) and cost breakdown structures.
Estimate material, fabrication, machining, assembly, testing, tooling, and overhead costs.
Coordinate with Design, Production, Procurement, and Finance teams for cost inputs.
Obtain supplier quotations and evaluate vendor pricing.
Perform cost analysis and identify cost optimization opportunities.
Support tendering, bidding, and proposal preparation activities.
Track actual project costs against estimated costs and recommend improvements.
Maintain costing databases, standards, and historical cost records.
Ensure compliance with railway industry standards and customer requirements.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
3–8 years of experience in costing/estimation, preferably in the rolling stock or railway industry.
Experience with railway manufacturing, fabrication, welding, and assembly processes.

Knowledge of railway standards such as EN, UIC, IRS, or RDSO specifications.
Experience in Metro, EMU, LHB coaches, locomotives, or passenger rolling stock projects.
