Job Summary
The Waiter is responsible for providing courteous, professional, and efficient food and beverage service to guests while maintaining the service standards of a four-star hotel. The role involves ensuring guest satisfaction, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene, and supporting smooth restaurant operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesGuest Service
- Welcome guests warmly and escort them to their tables when required.
- Present menus and explain menu items, daily specials, and promotions.
- Take accurate food and beverage orders and communicate them to the kitchen and bar.
- Serve food and beverages promptly according to hotel service standards.
- Ensure guests receive the correct orders with proper presentation.
- Check guest satisfaction during and after meals and respond promptly to requests.
- Handle guest complaints professionally and escalate issues to the Captain or Supervisor when necessary.
- Maintain a friendly, courteous, and positive attitude at all times.
Restaurant Operations
- Prepare the restaurant before service by setting tables according to hotel standards.
- Ensure tables, chairs, cutlery, crockery, glassware, and linen are clean and properly arranged.
- Clear tables efficiently and reset them for the next guests.
- Assist in buffet setup, replenishment, and clearance.
- Support banquet and special event operations when assigned.
- Follow standard operating procedures for room service, if applicable.
- Coordinate effectively with the kitchen and bar for timely service.
Hygiene & Safety
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and personal grooming.
- Follow food safety and hygiene regulations at all times.
- Ensure proper handling of food, beverages, and service equipment.
- Report breakages, equipment faults, or safety hazards immediately.
- Comply with hotel health, safety, and fire safety procedures.
Billing & Cash Handling
- Present guest bills accurately and process payments according to hotel procedures.
- Handle cash, card, and digital payments responsibly.
- Maintain confidentiality and accuracy in billing transactions.
Teamwork
- Work closely with Captains, Supervisors, Chefs, and other team members.
- Attend departmental meetings and training sessions.
- Assist colleagues during peak business hours.
- Support new employees during orientation and training.
Qualifications
- Higher Secondary (Plus Two) or Diploma in Hotel Management/Hospitality preferred.
- Certification in Food & Beverage Service is an added advantage.
Experience
- 0–2 years: Freshers with hotel management qualifications may be considered.
- 1–3 years: Experience in a reputed hotel, fine dining restaurant, or four-star/five-star property is preferred.
Required Skills
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Good knowledge of food and beverage service standards.
- Basic understanding of menu items, beverages, and table service.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Basic English communication; knowledge of Hindi and Malayalam is an advantage.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting trays and carrying food and beverage items safely.
- Flexible to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
Grooming Standards
- Maintain impeccable personal hygiene and grooming.
- Wear the prescribed hotel uniform with polished shoes.
- Follow the hotel's grooming and appearance policy.
