JOB SUMMARY
A knitwear export company in Tiruppur is seeking a highly experienced Knitting and Fabric Technical Specialist to take complete technical responsibility for knitted fabric development and execution—from yarn selection and knitting programme preparation through greige-fabric approval and handover for processing.
This is a senior, hands-on technical position. The candidate must be capable of independently analysing fabric requirements, selecting the correct yarn and knitting parameters, preventing defects, controlling external knitting units and ensuring that bulk fabric meets the required construction, GSM, width, appearance, quality and delivery standards.
The position is not a general fabric follow-up role. Strong technical expertise in knitted fabric manufacturing is compulsory.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Take technical ownership of knitted fabric from development through bulk greige-fabric approval Study buyer specifications, samples, tech packs and approved fabric standards Select the correct yarn count, composition, blend, twist, knitting structure, machine gauge and machine diameter Prepare accurate knitting programmes and technical specifications for suppliers Establish stitch length, loop length, course and wale requirements, Lycra percentage and other knitting parameters Develop single jersey, pique, rib, interlock, French terry, fleece, jacquard, engineered stripe and other knitted constructions Assess the suitability of yarn for the required fabric, garment construction and end use Coordinate yarn testing, lot segregation, traceability and technical approvals Verify yarn booking quantities, knitting consumption, wastage and expected fabric yield Plan knitting quantities according to order requirements, process loss and garment consumption Control external knitting vendors for capacity, quality, delivery and lot-wise traceability Conduct regular technical visits to knitting units and resolve machine- and fabric-related problems Inspect greige fabric before it is released for dyeing or further processing Identify and prevent barré, needle lines, Lycra variation, oil marks, contamination, holes, uneven loops, GSM variation and other knitting defects Anticipate shrinkage, spirality, skew, width and GSM behaviour after dyeing and finishing Coordinate with the dyeing specialist before bulk knitting approval Review fabric feasibility before order confirmation and highlight technical or delivery risks in advance Maintain development-to-bulk continuity and prevent unauthorised changes in yarn, machine or knitting parameters Analyse rejected or failed fabric and establish the technical root cause Raise supplier claims and debit recommendations with supporting technical evidence Maintain knitting specifications, inspection reports, supplier performance records and lot-wise traceability Coordinate with merchandising, sourcing, dyeing, quality, cutting and production teams Ensure compliance with applicable buyer, OCS, GRS, GOTS and material-segregation requirements Provide clear daily and weekly status updates covering quantity, quality, risk and expected completion dates
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
- Diploma or degree in Textile Technology, Knitting Technology, Textile Engineering or a related field Minimum 12–15 years of hands-on experience in circular knitting and knitted fabric manufacturing At least 4 years in a senior technical, knitting-manager or fabric-manager position Strong technical knowledge of cotton, cotton blends, viscose, modal, polyester, recycled fibres, Lycra and value-added yarns Strong knowledge of circular knitting machines, gauges, diameters, feeders, stitch length and fabric structures Ability to interpret buyer fabric specifications and reproduce approved standards in bulk Experience with export-quality knitwear and international buyer requirements Experience managing multiple external knitting suppliers in Tiruppur is strongly preferred Strong understanding of greige-fabric inspection and knitting-defect root-cause analysis Knowledge of fabric consumption, process loss, yield, lead-time and costing implications Ability to coordinate with dyeing and finishing teams on expected fabric performance Strong documentation, reporting and supplier-control capabilities Working knowledge of Tamil and English Must be willing to work full-time from Tiruppur and travel regularly to supplier units
COMPENSATION
Senior compensation, fully negotiable for an exceptional candidate and based on experience, technical capability and previous responsibilities.
