Position Overview
We are seeking a talented and dynamic News Writer to join our University Media Centre. The ideal candidate should have strong news writing skills, excellent command of language, and the ability to create compelling content for digital, print, and broadcast media. The candidate will be responsible for covering university events, achievements, academic developments, and institutional milestones through engaging and accurate news stories.
Job Responsibilities
- Research, write, edit, and publish news stories, press releases, and feature articles related to university activities.
- Cover academic, cultural, sports, research, and administrative events across the university.
- Conduct interviews with faculty members, students, researchers, and university leadership.
- Develop news content for websites, social media platforms, newsletters, and media publications.
- Ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency in all published content.
- Coordinate with internal departments to gather relevant information and updates.
- Monitor current affairs, education trends, and higher education developments for content opportunities.
- Assist in media communication and content planning initiatives.
- Maintain editorial standards and adhere to publication deadlines.
- Support branding and reputation-building efforts through impactful storytelling.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, English, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in news writing, journalism, media houses, newspapers, digital media platforms, or television channels.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Strong understanding of news formats, reporting techniques, and media ethics.
- Ability to write engaging and fact-based content under tight deadlines.
- Strong research and interviewing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital content management tools.
