About the role
In West Bengal, we support work on various themes within the purview of the Foundation.
We are looking for candidates who have a good understanding of issues pertaining to West Bengal, experience of working in the state or similar contexts in other states, fluency in local languages (speaking, reading, writing) and willingness to be based in Kolkata or other districts of the state.
Responsibilities
- Initiate relationships with civil society organisations (CSOs), including community based organizations, to support good grassroots work in West Bengal, across multiple thematic areas.
- Work on grant proposals by undertaking extensive field visits, building a good understanding of local context of CSOs and supporting them to articulate their work.
- Manage the assigned grants end to end during their life cycle as per the existing guidelines. This would include disbursal of grants, ensure ongoing, hands on engagement with partner organizations to understand effects of work being done and support partner organizations as required.
- Develop deep understanding of different regions/ vulnerable groups in the state and think of focused work that can help communities.
What we are looking for
- Candidates with sustained grassroots experience in West Bengal or similar contexts in other states and travel to different districts in the state for 10-15 days a month.
- Having experience in managing grants is desirable.
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree desirable.
- Substantial knowledge of project management, budgeting, documentation.
- High level of self-motivation, initiative, and creativity.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, and solve problems independently or collaboratively, as needed
