Job Title: Quality Control (QC) Chemist – Biochemistry
Job Summary
The QC Chemist (Biochemistry) is responsible for conducting routine and non-routine quality control testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products. This role bridges chemical and biochemical analysis, requiring hands-on experience in enzyme testing, cell culture monitoring, electrophoresis, and wet chemical testing. The individual ensures all products strictly comply with established safety, quality, and compendial standards (ACS, Pharmacopeia).
Key Responsibilities
- Biochemical & Enzyme Testing: Perform specialized assays to evaluate enzyme activity, purity, and kinetics, ensuring alignment with required specifications.
- Cell Culture & Electrophoresis: Conduct sampling and monitoring for cell culture processes and utilize electrophoresis techniques (e.g., SDS-PAGE, agarose gel) for protein and nucleic acid analysis.
- Chemical & Analytical Testing: Execute standard routine chemical testing, wet chemistry assays, and utilize analytical instrumentation (such as HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, FTIR, and titrations).
- Sampling & Compliance: Execute standardized sampling protocols for incoming and in-process materials in strict compliance with ACS, Pharmacopeia, ISO, and GMP guidelines.
- Documentation & Data Integrity: Accurately document all raw analytical data, maintain compliant laboratory notebooks, and prepare quality trend reports for management.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine calibration, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance on both chemical and biochemical laboratory instrumentation according to SOPs.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Production and R&D teams to troubleshoot quality issues, investigate out-of-specification (OOS) results, and drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biochemistry or a closely related biomolecular science discipline.
- Experience: 2-3 years of active quality control experience in a chemical, biopharmaceutical, or biotechnology manufacturing laboratory environment.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong foundation in both biochemical assays (enzymes, gel electrophoresis) and traditional chemical testing methods. Familiarity with cell culture maintenance is highly preferred.
- Regulatory Familiarity: Practical understanding of compendial requirements (ACS, Pharmacopeia) and regulatory compliance standards (GMP/ISO).
- Core Competencies: Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate technical findings effectively across teams.
