Job Summary
The Medical Transcriptionist is responsible for accurately transcribing ultrasound findings dictated by the Radiologist into standardized ultrasound reports. The position requires excellent medical terminology, typing accuracy, confidentiality, and the ability to prepare reports within the required turnaround time.
Key Responsibilities
- Transcribe ultrasound reports accurately from the Radiologist's voice recordings or dictated findings.
- Prepare reports for various ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, pelvic, obstetric, KUB, thyroid, breast, Doppler and other relevant studies.
- Ensure correct spelling, medical terminology, measurements, observations and anatomical descriptions.
- Follow the hospital's approved ultrasound reporting format and templates.
- Verify patient identification details, examination type and other relevant information before finalizing the report.
- Maintain accuracy of patient names, age, sex, UHID/IPD/OPD numbers and examination details.
- Make corrections and amendments in reports as instructed by the Radiologist.
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy of all patient information and medical records.
- Coordinate with Radiologists, ultrasound technicians and the medical records/reporting department whenever clarification is required.
- Ensure timely completion and dispatch/uploading of reports as per hospital policy.
- Maintain proper records of completed, pending and corrected reports.
- Immediately bring unclear dictation, discrepancies or missing information to the attention of the concerned Radiologist.
- Avoid making any clinical interpretation or alteration of the Radiologist's findings without authorization.
- Follow all hospital policies relating to patient confidentiality, medical records, infection control and workplace discipline.
- Perform any other duties related to medical transcription and reporting assigned by the department head or hospital administration.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Graduate / 12th pass with relevant medical transcription experience, as per hospital requirements.
- Previous experience in ultrasound/radiology transcription is preferred.
- Good knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy.
- Excellent English grammar, spelling and sentence formation.
- Good typing speed with high accuracy.
- Ability to understand medical abbreviations and ultrasound terminology.
- Basic computer knowledge, including MS Word and hospital/HIS/RIS reporting software.
- Good listening and comprehension skills.
- Ability to work under time constraints and meet reporting deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Performance Standards
The Medical Transcriptionist shall be evaluated on:
- Accuracy of transcription
- Typing speed and productivity
- Correct use of medical terminology
- Timely completion of reports
- Proper formatting of reports
- Confidentiality and handling of patient information
- Compliance with hospital policies
- Coordination and professional behaviour
Important Responsibility
The Medical Transcriptionist shall not independently add, remove, interpret or modify any medical finding or diagnosis. All clinical content must be transcribed according to the Radiologist's dictation and any required clinical correction must be confirmed by the concerned Radiologist.
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹20,000.00 per month
