- Programming: Develop, test, and edit CNC programs (G-code/M-code) for 3-axis or 4-axis Vertical Machining Centers using CAD/CAM software.
- Setup & Tooling: Perform complete machine setup, including fixture alignment, tool selection, loading, and setting offsets (geometry, wear, work coordinates G54-G59).
- Optimization: Optimize tool paths, speed, feed, and depth of cut to minimize cycle times and maximize productivity.
- Technical Drawing Analysis: Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) to determine the best machining methods.
- Production Monitoring: Run "prove-out" trials for new programs, monitor machining processes for errors (vibration, chatter), and adjust parameters to maintain quality.
- Quality & Safety: Ensure produced parts meet tolerance specifications using precision instruments and adhere strictly to 5S and safety standards.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Usually 2-5 years of hands-on experience in VMC operation and programming in a manufacturing setting.
- Software Proficiency: Experience with CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Delcam PowerMill, NX) and CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
- Controller Knowledge: Strong knowledge of Fanuc, Siemens, or Heidenhain control systems.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in G-code editing, geometric dimensioning, and troubleshooting CNC machinery.
- Education: Diploma or ITI in Mechanical Engineering, Tool & Die Making, or a related field is often preferred.
