Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Billing Executive with 5+ years of experience in billing operations within a multi-specialty hospital. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely billing for Outpatient (OP), Inpatient (IP), Emergency, Day Care, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Radiology, and other specialty services. The candidate should have expertise in insurance (TPA), corporate billing, package billing, discharge billing, and Hospital Information Systems (HIS), while maintaining compliance with NABH standards and hospital policies. The Discharge Billing Executive is responsible for preparing accurate and timely final bills for patients at the time of discharge, verifying all chargeable services, processing insurance or corporate billing requirements, collecting payments, and ensuring a smooth discharge process while maintaining high standards of patient service.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and generate final inpatient bills before patient discharge.
- Verify all charges, including room rent, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, procedures, consumables, and professional fees.
- Coordinate with nursing stations, pharmacy, laboratory, operation theatre, and other departments to ensure all services are billed.
- Process cash, insurance, TPA, corporate, and credit billing as per hospital policies.
- Verify insurance approvals, package utilization, and non-payable items where applicable.
- Collect payments and issue receipts accurately.
- Explain billing details and respond to patient or attendant queries professionally.
- Ensure billing accuracy and minimize billing discrepancies.
- Process refunds, deposits, and bill adjustments after obtaining necessary approvals.
- Maintain complete billing records and supporting documentation.
- Ensure compliance with hospital billing policies, financial controls, and statutory requirements.
- Coordinate with the accounts and insurance teams for claim documentation and reconciliation.
- Prepare daily billing reports and complete end-of-shift cash reconciliation.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and financial records.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce discharge turnaround time.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Hospital Management, or a related field.
- Certification in Hospital Administration or Medical Billing is an added advantage.
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in hospital billing or patient billing.
- Experience in a multi-specialty hospital is preferred.
- Familiarity with Hospital Information Systems (HIS) and billing software.

- Ensure timely discharge billing to facilitate smooth patient discharge.
- Process cash, credit, insurance (TPA), corporate billing transactions.
- Coordinate with insurance and TPA teams for pre-authorizations, claim documentation, and final settlements.
- Prepare and submit complete billing documents to minimize insurance claim rejections.
- Handle package billing, discounts, refunds, credit notes, and billing adjustments with appropriate approvals.
- Reconcile daily billing collections, cash transactions, and billing reports.
- Coordinate with nursing units, consultants, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, and finance departments to resolve billing discrepancies.
- Respond professionally to patient, attendant, corporate, and insurance-related billing queries.
- Maintain billing records and documentation for statutory compliance and audits.
- Ensure compliance with NABH standards, hospital policies, and applicable healthcare regulations.
- Support month-end closing activities and revenue reconciliation.
- Mentor and guide junior billing executives to ensure adherence to billing procedures and quality standards.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in NABH-accredited hospitals.
- Knowledge of government healthcare schemes such as Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY), EHS, CGHS, or state health schemes.
- Excellent customer service and patient-handling skills.
