Key Roles and Responsibilities1. Product Design & Development
- Develop new product designs based on customer requirements and technical specifications.
- Prepare 2D drawings and 3D models using CAD software.
- Create detailed engineering drawings, assemblies, and bill of materials (BOM).
- Review and modify existing designs to improve performance, manufacturability, and cost.
2. Engineering Analysis
- Perform design calculations, tolerance analysis.
- Conduct simulations and engineering analyses where applicable
3. Manufacturing Support
- Coordinate with production teams to ensure designs are manufacturable.
- Resolve design-related issues during manufacturing.
- Support process improvements to increase productivity and reduce waste.
- Participate in design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) activities.
4. Documentation
- Prepare and maintain:
- Engineering drawings
- BOMs
- Design calculations
- Technical specifications
- Work instructions
- Engineering Change Requests (ECRs)
- Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)
5. Quality & Compliance
- Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards and customer specifications.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for product failures.
- Participate in quality audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
6. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with:
- Production
- Quality
- Sales
- Project Management
- Customers and suppliers (when required)
- Provide technical support during product development and production.
7. Cost Optimization
- Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost reduction.
- Recommend alternative materials or manufacturing methods without compromising quality.
- Support supplier evaluation for new components and materials.
8. Project Management
- Plan and execute design activities according to project timelines.
- Track project milestones and deliverables.
- Support new product development (NPD) activities.
9. Continuous Improvement
- Recommend improvements to product design and manufacturing processes.
- Stay updated with new technologies and manufacturing methods.
Skills Required
- Proficiency in CAD software AutoCAD , Autodesk Inventor
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, fabrication)
- GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
- Engineering drawing interpretation
- Material selection and manufacturing methods
- Problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication and teamwork
- Project planning and time management
- Understanding of quality systems and continuous improvement methodologies
