About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer with strong expertise in data warehousing and data lake architectures to design, build, and optimize our data infrastructure. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and/or Databricks, and is comfortable owning end-to-end data pipelines in a modern cloud data ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines (batch and streaming) for ingesting, transforming, and storing large volumes of data.
- Architect and manage data warehouse and data lake/lakehouse solutions to support analytics and reporting needs.
- Work extensively with Microsoft Fabric and/or Databricks for data engineering, orchestration, and lakehouse implementation.
- Develop and optimize ETL/ELT processes ensuring data quality, consistency, and reliability.
- Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose datasets.
- Implement data governance, security, and access control best practices across data platforms.
- Monitor pipeline performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize for cost and efficiency.
- Document data models, pipeline architecture, and processes for maintainability.
Required Skills & Experience
- 4+ years of experience in data engineering roles (adjust based on seniority needs).
- Strong hands-on experience with data warehousing concepts (dimensional modeling, star/snowflake schemas) and data lake/lakehouse architectures.
- Practical experience with Microsoft Fabric and/or Databricks (Spark, Delta Lake, notebooks, workflows).
- Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language commonly used in data engineering (Python or Scala).
- Experience with orchestration tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Airflow, or similar).
- Solid understanding of cloud platforms (Azure preferred, given Fabric; AWS/GCP experience also valuable).
- Experience working with large-scale structured and unstructured data.
- Strong understanding of data quality, governance, and security best practices.
- Good communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional and remote teams.
Nice to Have
- Certifications in Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Engineer, or Databricks.
- Experience with real-time/streaming data pipelines (Kafka, Event Hubs, Spark Streaming).
- Exposure to Power BI or other BI/reporting tools consuming the data platform.
- Experience in a fast-paced startup or product-driven environment.
