COWI Renewable Energy, of which we are a part, has offices in Scandinavia, UK and Germany and in Poland. We provide consultancy services to our customers on the planning, designing, and optimization of energy systems worldwide.
In this position as a Power System Engineer (Overhead lines Specialist), you will join our international team of experts and work on challenging and innovative projects. Your key responsibilities will include modeling, analyzing, and designing HV overhead lines, as well as developing future strategies for our clients.
The Overhead lines Specialist will be engaged in feasibility studies and master planning, assessing technical and economic factors to optimize overhead lines and their design. This role supports the development of reliable and efficient power transmission solutions tailored to each project’s unique requirements.
Furthermore, on a day-to-day basis you will:
- Design and develop towers and power lines, including route planning, optimization of transmission and distribution overhead power lines, and environmental impact assessments.
- Perform electrical and mechanical calculations (line parameters, EMF analysis, sag and tension calculations, tower loadings) and verify technical documentation.
- Deliver complete power line designs, e.g., line hardware and fittings selection, insulator string set design, tower grounding systems, fibre optic components, etc.
- Conduct feasibility studies, master planning, and prepare technical reports.
- Collaborate with clients through meetings, strategic planning, and business trips.
- Provide ongoing consultancy and software support to ensure effective system operation.

In addition, you bring:
- A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.
- A strong interest in working with detailed technical solutions and engineering analyses.
- Relevant professional experience in overhead power line design and engineering.
- Proficiency in digital engineering tools such as PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, and QGIS.
- Solid knowledge of international design standards (e.g., EN 50341, IEC standards), including experience in mechanical and electrical calculations and the ability to interpret technical drawings.
- Familiarity with power transmission systems and HVDC and/or offshore cable markets is considered an advantage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with a proactive approach to learning.
- A collaborative, team-oriented mindset with excellent communication skills and willingness to undertake international travel as required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
