Overview of the Role

As a Payroll Specialist, you'll play a key role in ensuring our colleagues are paid accurately and on time while supporting compliance with Indian payroll legislation and statutory requirements. Working closely with People, Finance, Legal, Tax and external payroll partners, you'll be responsible for delivering a seamless payroll experience while ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations across multiple Indian states.
Overview of the Team
You'll be part of a collaborative Employee Services environment that supports colleagues across the business. The team is focused on delivering an outstanding colleague experience through accurate payroll processing, responsive support, continuous improvement, and strong partnership with stakeholders across People, Finance, Risk, Assurance, Group Tax and external vendors.
Office Location
Bangalore, India
Hybrid Working - 3 days per week in our Bangalore office and 2 days from home.
Key Responsibilities
What you'll be doing;
Process monthly payroll accurately, including salaries, overtime, bonuses and statutory deductions.
Ensure compliance with Indian payroll legislation, labour laws and statutory requirements.
Calculate income tax and support tax return filing activities.
Respond to colleague payroll queries relating to tax, Form 16, statutory deductions, overtime, public holidays and severance payments.
Maintain accurate employee payroll records, including contracts, tax details and banking information.
Partner with People and Finance teams to manage employment changes, onboarding data, benefits administration and payroll reporting.
Coordinate with payroll and compliance vendors to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing.
Support statutory compliance activities including PF, ESI and PT closures, challans and quarterly/annual filings across relevant state jurisdictions.
Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation and operational efficiencies.
Experience you'll bring;
5+ years of payroll experience within a mid-sized or large organisation.
Strong, in-depth knowledge of Indian payroll legislation, labour law and statutory compliance requirements.
Experience working with SAP/GlobalView payroll systems.
Advanced Excel and data analysis skills, with experience producing reports and actionable insights.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage complex payroll calculations accurately.
Experience working within an Employee Services or shared services environment.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing deadlines.
Fluency in written and spoken English.
A collaborative and flexible approach, combined with the ability to work independently.
