Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Marine Mechanical Fitter to join our shipbuilding and ship repair team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for installing, assembling, repairing, overhauling, and maintaining marine machinery and mechanical systems on vessels, offshore structures, and shipyard projects. The candidate should possess strong technical knowledge of marine mechanical equipment and be able to work safely in a demanding shipyard environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, dismantle, inspect, repair, and overhaul marine engines, pumps, valves, compressors, gearboxes, turbines, and auxiliary machinery.
- Perform alignment of pumps, motors, shafts, couplings, and rotating equipment.
- Assemble and fit mechanical components according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on marine machinery.
- Replace bearings, seals, gaskets, bushings, and other mechanical components.
- Conduct mechanical troubleshooting and diagnose equipment failures.
- Perform hydro testing, pressure testing, and leak testing where required.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and mechanical schematics.
- Use precision measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, dial gauges, and alignment tools.
- Assist during machinery commissioning, sea trials, and testing activities.
- Ensure compliance with shipyard safety procedures and permit-to-work systems.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
- Coordinate with supervisors, engineers, and other trades to complete projects on schedule.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of marine mechanical systems and shipboard equipment.
- Experience in engine overhauling and machinery maintenance.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and technical manuals.
- Knowledge of precision alignment techniques.
- Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of marine safety standards and work practices.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and onboard vessels.
Qualifications
- ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Fitter Trade, or equivalent.
- Relevant technical certifications are an added advantage.
Experience
- 2–8 years of experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, dry dock, offshore, or marine engineering projects.
- Experience working on marine engines, pumps, valves, compressors, and auxiliary machinery is preferred.
Pay: ₹800.00 - ₹1,600.00 per day
