We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer – Payments & Financial Systems to design, build, and scale the infrastructure behind our billing, subscription, and entitlement platforms.
This is a high-impact engineering role focused on solving complex financial system challenges, including payment processing, subscription management, transaction accuracy, reconciliation, and financial data integrity. As our platform grows across payment providers, regions, currencies, and business models, we need an engineer who can create robust systems that are reliable, auditable, and built for scale.
You will be responsible for architecting the next generation of our payment and billing platform, including transaction ledgers, subscription workflows, payment integrations, entitlement services, and reporting systems. The role requires strong backend expertise, excellent data modeling skills, and experience building systems where accuracy and reliability are essential.
You will work closely with Engineering, Finance, Operations, and Product teams to ensure that financial workflows are automated, transparent, and dependable.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and develop a scalable payments, billing, and entitlement platform that provides accurate transaction tracking and customer access management.
- Design robust backend systems and database structures that maintain financial accuracy, consistency, and auditability.
- Build reliable subscription management workflows covering customer purchases, renewals, upgrades, downgrades, cancellations, trials, and subscription changes.
- Develop integrations with payment providers using secure webhook processing, idempotency, retry mechanisms, and failure recovery strategies.
- Create reconciliation workflows to ensure payment gateway transactions match internal records and financial reports.
- Implement solutions for complex financial scenarios, including refunds, disputes, chargebacks, credits, adjustments, and settlement handling.
- Build reliable data models and reporting systems to support finance operations, revenue analysis, compliance requirements, and business insights.
- Ensure customer payments are correctly connected to subscriptions, invoices, and product entitlements.
- Contribute to customer-facing billing experiences, including checkout flows, account billing management, and subscription controls.
- Lead migration initiatives from existing systems to improved financial infrastructure while maintaining business continuity.
- Establish monitoring, validation, and operational processes to maintain system reliability and quickly identify issues.
Required Qualifications
- 6–10 years of backend engineering experience with strong proficiency in Go and relational database systems.
- Experience designing and building production-grade systems with complex workflows and high reliability requirements.
- Proven experience developing payment, billing, subscription, or financial transaction platforms.
- Strong understanding of payment gateway integrations, webhook architecture, transaction processing, and reconciliation.
- Experience implementing subscription lifecycle management, including renewals, upgrades, downgrades, cancellations, trials, and billing adjustments.
- Strong knowledge of database modeling, SQL, and designing systems that maintain data integrity under scale and concurrency.
- Experience building systems involving financial records, transaction history, audit trails, or ledger-based architecture.
- Ability to investigate and resolve data issues independently using SQL and system analysis.
- Experience working on B2B products with complex billing requirements such as subscriptions, plans, add-ons, or customer entitlements.
- Comfortable contributing to frontend workflows using TypeScript and React when required for customer billing experiences.
- Strong ownership mindset with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work on-site from the Chennai office.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in fintech, payments, trading platforms, or financial technology products.
- Experience with multi-currency, multi-region, or multi-entity payment systems.
- Familiarity with financial reporting, revenue recognition concepts, taxation workflows, or compliance requirements.
- Experience designing event-driven systems, append-only data models, or audit-friendly transaction architectures.
- Experience building financial reconciliation pipelines or reporting systems used by finance teams.
- Experience modernizing legacy systems and migrating live production data safely.
- Familiarity with identity platforms or large-scale account management systems.
Pay: ₹5,000,000.00 - ₹9,000,000.00 per year
