Operation Theatre (OT) Technician

Job Summary
The Operation Theatre Technician is responsible for preparing and maintaining the operation theatre, assisting surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff during surgical procedures, ensuring sterility of instruments and equipment, and maintaining patient safety standards in the OT complex.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Operative Duties
- Prepare operation theatre before surgeries.
- Check functioning of OT equipment, lights, suction, cautery, monitors, and instruments.
- Arrange surgical instruments, implants, drapes, and consumables as per procedure requirement.
- Maintain sterility and aseptic precautions in OT.
- Assist in patient shifting and positioning.
Intra-Operative Duties
- Assist surgeons, anesthetists, and OT nurses during procedures.
- Handle and pass surgical instruments during operations.
- Maintain instrument counts and sterile field throughout surgery.
- Operate OT equipment under supervision.
- Assist in specimen handling and documentation when required.
Post-Operative Duties
- Clean and disinfect OT tables, instruments, and equipment after procedures.
- Send instruments for sterilization/autoclaving.
- Dispose biomedical waste according to hospital protocols.
- Prepare OT for the next procedure.
Inventory & Maintenance
- Maintain stock of surgical consumables and implants.
- Report malfunctioning equipment immediately.
- Ensure proper storage of sterile instruments and supplies.
- Maintain OT records and registers.
Qualification
- Diploma / Certificate in Operation Theatre Technology or relevant allied health sciences course.
- Prior experience in Orthopaedic OT preferred.
Skills Required
- Knowledge of OT sterilization protocols and aseptic techniques.
- Familiarity with orthopaedic instruments and implants.
- Ability to work in emergencies and under pressure.
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of patient safety and infection control.
Working Conditions
- Rotational shifts and emergency duty may be required.
- Must adhere to hospital infection control and safety policies.
