About the Opportunity
EcoNest Ventures is currently prototyping a new gaming vertical focused on modular, systems-driven gameplay experiences.
We are building the Proof of Concept (POC) for a stylized 2D action RPG with a strong focus on combat feel, responsive gameplay, and scalable combat systems.
As our first Gameplay Engineering Intern, you will work directly with the Founder in a high-ownership environment to help prototype the core gameplay systems from zero to one.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both the technical and creative side of game development — building gameplay systems, experimenting with combat feel, and working with visuals, VFX, sprites, and motion.
What You’ll Work On
You’ll help prototype modular combat systems for:
- Projectiles
- Movement Abilities
- Area Effects
- Melee Combat
- Summons
The focus is on building clean, reusable gameplay systems where logic and visuals are separated properly.
You’ll work on:
- Unity 2D gameplay systems
- Combat mechanics & movement
- Sprite-based combat visuals
- VFX, trails, impacts & hit feedback
- Internal testing/debugging tools
- Rapid gameplay prototyping
You’ll also help improve “game feel” through:
- Screen shake
- Hit-stop
- Motion arcs
- Responsive VFX
- Combat readability
- Impact timing
Skills We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone with solid Unity and C# fundamentals who enjoys building gameplay systems from scratch.
You should be comfortable with:
- Unity 2D
- C# scripting
- Prefabs & modular systems
- Basic gameplay math/logic
- Rapid prototyping
You should also have a good eye for gameplay visuals and motion.
Visual & Asset Skills (Preferred)
Experience with any of the following is a strong plus:
- Pixel art workflows
- Sprite creation or editing
- Combat VFX
- Particle Systems
- Trail effects
- Basic shaders
- Animation timing
- UI polish
You do NOT need to be a professional artist, but you should be comfortable working with gameplay visuals and iterating quickly.
