Job Title: Phlebotomist
Job Summary:
A Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood samples from patients for laboratory testing, transfusions, research, or blood donations. They ensure patient safety and comfort while following proper procedures for specimen collection, labeling, handling, and transportation.
Key Responsibilities
- Draw blood samples from patients using venipuncture, finger sticks, or heel sticks.
- Verify patient identity and ensure accurate specimen labeling.
- Explain procedures and help patients feel comfortable during blood collection.
- Follow infection control, safety, and confidentiality guidelines.
- Process, store, and transport specimens according to laboratory protocols.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions during or after blood collection.
- Clean and maintain phlebotomy equipment and work areas.
- Assist with inventory management and stocking of supplies.
- Comply with healthcare regulations and quality standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a phlebotomy training program preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification (where required by state or employer).
- Basic knowledge of anatomy, medical terminology, and laboratory procedures.
- Experience in blood collection techniques preferred.
