Wire EDM Operator / Programmer – Job Description
A Wire EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) Operator sets up, operates, and maintains Wire EDM machines used to cut precise metal components for tooling, aerospace, automotive, medical, and precision engineering industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate Wire EDM machines
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints
- Load workpieces and align fixtures accurately
- Create or edit CNC programs for Wire EDM operations
- Select proper wire type, dielectric fluid, and machining parameters
- Monitor machining process for accuracy and surface finish
- Measure finished components using precision instruments
- Perform routine machine maintenance and troubleshooting
- Maintain production records and quality documentation
- Follow safety and quality standards
Required Skills
- Knowledge of CNC and Wire EDM machining principles
- Ability to read technical drawings and GD&T
- Familiarity with measuring tools such as micrometers, verniers, and height gauges
- Understanding of tooling materials and machining tolerances
- Basic programming knowledge (G-code/CAM software)
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Attention to detail and precision
Educational Qualification
- Diploma / ITI in Mechanical, Tool & Die, Production, or related field
- CNC/EDM certification preferred
Experience
- Fresher to 5+ years depending on role
- Experience with machines such as Mitsubishi, Sodick, Fanuc, or Makino is often preferred
