The Design Civil Engineer – Switchyards & Structural (EPC) is responsible for delivering complete civil and structural engineering solutions for switchyard projects within an EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) environment. The role includes design development, technical coordination across disciplines, interface with procurement and construction teams, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality engineering deliverables in line with project schedules and contract requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design & Engineering (EPC Focused)
Develop civil and structural designs for EPC switchyards including foundations, equipment support structures, buildings, cable trenches, firewalls, drainage systems, and access roads.
Perform structural analysis and design using tools such as STAAD Pro, ETABS, SAFE, etc.
Prepare IFC (Issued for Construction) drawings, design calculations, BOQs, and design reports per project requirements.
Ensure constructability of designs and optimize designs for cost, schedule, and ease of construction.
Incorporate vendor equipment loads, geotechnical data, and client specifications into structural design.
2. EPC Execution & Construction Support
Provide technical support to construction teams, including resolving site queries, approving construction-related changes, and issuing revised drawings as required.
Review contractor/shop drawings, fabrication drawings, method statements, and inspection test plans.
Conduct site visits, inspections, and design verifications when needed.
3. Documentation & Deliverables
Prepare and manage engineering deliverables per EPC project schedules (design basis reports, specifications, drawings, BOQs).
Review vendor documents and ensure alignment with project design.
Support tendering by preparing conceptual designs, estimates, and technical clarifications
Qualifications & Skills:-
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering preferred).
Experience:-
3–10 years of experience in switchyard or substation civil/structural design within an EPC contractor environment.
Experience in 132kV/220kV/400kV/765kV substation projects is highly preferred.
Technical Skills:-
Proficiency in AutoCAD, STAAD Pro, ETABS, SAFE, and related tools.
Strong knowledge of substation layout concepts, equipment foundations, and steel structure design.
Familiarity with geotechnical engineering, soil-structure interaction, and load combinations.
Understanding of EPC workflows—design, procurement interfaces, construction sequencing.
