Job DescriptionStone Procurement Manager — Quarry & Block Sourcing (Owner's Office)
Organisation: Rajaswi Group (Owner's Office) Location: Ahmedabad, Gujarat — with extensive travel to the Gwalior–Morena quarry belt, Madhya Pradesh (expect 8–12 days/month at quarries in early phases) Reports to: Owner / Promoter directly Works alongside: Stone Works Manager, Lead Sculptor, Project Architect (Owner's Office), and the project's UK-based stone consultancy Engagement: Full-time. Senior candidates seeking a retainer/project structure for the procurement phase will also be considered.
The Project
We are constructing a large private classical residence designed by a leading UK architectural practice, involving approximately 12,000 cubic feet of carving-grade Gwalior Mint sandstone — domes, Corinthian capitals, entablatures, cornices, balustrades, and solid ashlar facing. All stone is purchased as raw quarry blocks and fabricated in our own captive yard (CNC and hand-carving) under our lead sculptor.
This is quarry-block procurement at institutional scale — closer to the supply operations behind major temple and heritage projects than to any commercial cladding job. Block soundness, bed selection, and extraction sizing are governed by a written specification from our UK stone consultants (consulting geologists), to which the successful candidate will work.
The Role
You will own the stone supply pipeline from quarry face to yard gate:
Sourcing & contracting
- Identify, evaluate, and negotiate directly with quarry owners in the Gwalior–Morena belt (no middlemen, no Kishangarh trade)
- Structure quarry-section reservation agreements covering multi-month extraction programmes
- Run the control-block approval process with the stone consultants — establishing the physical reference standard against which all supply is judged
Block selection & quality
- Inspect and select blocks at the quarry: soundness, vents, clay pockets, iron staining, bed height, and extraction sizes adequate for dome voussoirs and long cornice runs
- Enforce bedding-plane orientation requirements per element type as specified by the consultants
- Exercise rejection rights at quarry and again at our yard; maintain the block register with full piece traceability
Programme & logistics
- Schedule extraction against the fabrication programme so the yard is never starved and never overstocked
- Manage transport (600+ km haul to Ahmedabad), breakage-in-transit, and landed-cost control
- Certify inspected deliveries as the basis for staged payments (payment release itself sits with Finance — see below)
Statutory & documentation
- Verify mining lease validity, royalty payment, and transit passes under MP minor minerals rules for every consignment
- Maintain complete procurement documentation to audit standard
Who We Are Looking For
- 10+ years in the Indian stone industry with genuine quarry-side block procurement experience — you can judge a block by eye, chip, and hammer, and you know what a bad bed looks like before it is sawn
- Strongly preferred: procurement/sourcing experience on institutional stone projects (large temple construction programmes, heritage restoration, or monumental public works) or as a sourcing/grading manager at a serious dimension-stone block exporter
- Working knowledge of sandstone geology — bedding planes, saturation, seasoning — and willingness to work under a consulting geologist's written specification rather than trade custom
- Deep personal network among quarry owners in MP/Rajasthan; you know who extracts sound block and who dresses up reject
- Hindi essential; English and/or Gujarati desirable
- Comfortable in a structured owner's office with strict separation of duties: you negotiate, select, and receive stone; quality is independently certified; payments are released by Finance against certified deliveries. This structure is non-negotiable and protects you as much as it protects us.
What This Role Is Not
- Not a tile/paving/slab trading role
- Not a site execution or masonry supervision role
- Not a desk procurement role — this job is won or lost at the quarry face
What We Offer
- One of the most ambitious classical stone projects in private hands in India today, with a UK design pedigree and a captive fabrication operation
- Direct access to the promoter; no layers between you and the decision-maker
- Compensation benchmarked to seniority and structured to reward supply quality, not volume
- For the right senior candidate (e.g. a veteran of a major temple stone programme), we are open to a bespoke advisory or part-time structure
To apply: Send your CV with a note describing the largest block-procurement programme you have personally run — quarries used, volumes, and how you handled rejection and bed selection.
Pay: ₹18,630.26 - ₹69,659.56 per month
Work Location: In person
