Job Title: School Librarian
Job Summary
The School Librarian is responsible for managing the school library, supporting teaching and learning, promoting reading habits, and providing students and staff with access to print and digital learning resources. The librarian maintains library collections, organizes library activities, and fosters information literacy among students.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the daily operations of the school library.
- Organize, classify, catalog, and maintain books, journals, magazines, and digital resources.
- Issue, receive, and maintain records of library materials.
- Assist students and teachers in locating books and reference materials.
- Promote reading through book clubs, storytelling sessions, reading challenges, and library events.
- Collaborate with teachers to support classroom instruction and curriculum.
- Teach students basic research and information literacy skills.
- Recommend and procure new books and educational resources.
- Maintain library discipline and ensure a safe, welcoming learning environment.
- Prepare library reports, inventory records, and annual stock verification.
- Monitor library budget and resource utilization.
- Ensure proper maintenance of library software and digital databases where applicable.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Library Science (B.Lib.Sc./M.Lib.Sc.) or Information Science.
- Previous experience in a school library is preferred.
- Knowledge of library classification systems and library management software.
- Good communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
