epartment: Telecom & Optical Networks / Infrastructure Execution
Reports To: Telecom Manager / Project Head
Position Overview
We are looking for a hands-on OFC Network Engineer to oversee the survey, planning, laying, testing, and maintenance of optical fiber cable networks. You will be responsible for ensuring seamless fiber connectivity, managing site contractors during trenching/HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) operations, and troubleshooting fiber link performance to meet project deadlines and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Route Survey & Network Design: Conduct route surveys for underground and aerial OFC deployment; prepare route alignment sheets, high-level design (HLD), and low-level design (LLD) maps using CAD/GIS tools.
- Site Execution & Trenching Supervision: Supervise civil trenching, ducting (PLB HDPE pipes), blowing/pulling of fiber cables, and HDD activities along highways, city roads, or pipeline corridors.
- Splicing & Jointing Oversight: Manage optical fiber fusion splicing, joint enclosure installations, and Fiber Distribution Frame (FDF) terminations at network nodes or control rooms.
- Testing & Commissioning: Perform OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) trace testing, insertion loss testing, and chromatic dispersion analysis to validate fiber link quality and generate test reports.
- Fault Detection & Maintenance: Lead emergency restoration activities for fiber cuts, cable degradation, or high-attenuation issues; ensure high network availability and minimal downtime.
- BOQ & Vendor Management: Prepare Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for optical hardware, evaluate contractor bills against physical site progress, and strictly ensure adherence to safety and quality guidelines.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Electronics & Communication (ECE), Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience: 2–5 years of practical experience in underground/overhead OFC network laying, execution, and testing.
- Technical Equipment & Software Proficiency:
- Testing Gear: OTDR, Optical Power Meter (OPM), Visual Fault Locator (VFL), Fusion Splicing Machine
- Software/Drafting: AutoCAD, Google Earth Pro, QGIS / ArcGIS (preferred)
- Core Knowledge: Thorough understanding of fiber optics physics, single-mode/multi-mode fibers, cable blowing techniques, ROW (Right of Way) statutory permissions, and utility mapping.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Fiber Optics Technician (CFOT) or equivalent industry credential.
- Experience with cross-country pipeline communications (e.g., SCADA/OFC co-location along gas/oil pipelines).
- Valid driving license and willingness to travel or relocate across active project site corridors.
