Key Responsibilities
1. Equipment Maintenance & Kiln Management Supervise daily mechanical maintenance of the Rotary Kiln and Rotary Cooler, including the monitoring and alignment of support rollers (tyres), girth gears, pinion assemblies, and main drive gearboxes. Manage maintenance of shell air fans, slip ring assemblies, and kiln inlet/outlet sealing arrangements to prevent gas leakage. Oversee repairs and periodic checks on the WHRB (Waste Heat Recovery Boiler) system, ESP (Electrostatic Precipitator), dampers, and high-capacity ID/FD (Induced Draft/Forced Draft) fans. 2. Material Handling & Product Separation Ensure smooth operation of the Raw Material Handling System (RMHS), including wagon tipplers, track hoppers, belt conveyors, screeners, and crushers (Iron Ore, Coal, and Dolomite feeds). Maintain the Product Separation Plant (PSP) equipment, specifically magnetic separators, vibrating screens, product conveyors, and bucket elevators. Routine maintenance of pneumatic conveying systems, dust extraction systems, and bag filters across the DRI plant. 3. Breakdown & Shutdown Execution Lead the mechanical execution team during annual or emergency plant shutdowns, focusing on faster turnaround times for critical jobs like kiln alignment, gear replacement, or shell patch welding. Perform rapid troubleshooting during mid-operation mechanical emergencies (e.g., conveyor belt snaps, gearbox jamming, or bearing overheating) to prevent kiln jamming. 4. Manpower & Material Control Allocate daily duties to fitters, riggers, welders, and maintenance assistants across shifts. Raise item indents for critical mechanical spares, such as specialized bearings, couplings, conveyor belts, fasteners, and heavy-duty lubricants. Verify the quality of incoming fabricated structures and spare parts against technical drawings. 5. Safety in High-Temperature Zones Enforce strict compliance with safety norms, especially when working near high-temperature equipment, confined spaces (inside kilns/coolers), and elevated conveyor galleries. Conduct daily toolbox talks and ensure mandatory use of specialized PPE like heat-resistant suits and safety harnesses where necessary. Skills and Qualifications Education & Experience Qualification: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or ITI (Fitter/Mechanic) from a recognized institute. Experience: 5 to 10 years of heavy industrial maintenance experience, with a minimum of 3–5 years strictly within a DRI / Sponge Iron plant environment.
