Job Title: Mechanical Lead Engineer – Underground (UG) Piping

Job Summary
The Mechanical Lead Engineer – UG Piping will be responsible for planning, execution, supervision, and quality control of underground piping works at the Dahej project site. The role involves coordinating with engineering, construction, QA/QC, survey, civil, HSE, and client teams to ensure safe, timely, and quality completion of UG piping activities in accordance with project specifications, codes, and standards.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Planning
* Review approved drawings, specifications, P&IDs, plot plans, isometrics, and underground piping layouts.
* Prepare construction methodologies, work plans, and execution schedules for UG piping activities.
* Coordinate with engineering teams for technical clarifications and resolution of site issues.
* Ensure availability of drawings, materials, equipment, and manpower before execution.
Construction Management
* Lead and supervise UG piping installation activities including:
* Excavation coordination
* Trench preparation
* Bedding and backfilling
* Pipe laying and alignment
* Jointing/welding activities
* Valve and fitting installation
* Tie-ins and interconnections
* Monitor daily progress and ensure compliance with project schedules.
* Coordinate with civil, survey, and electrical/instrumentation disciplines to avoid interface conflicts.
* Manage subcontractors and construction crews effectively.
Quality Assurance & Control
* Ensure installation complies with project specifications, approved procedures, and applicable standards.
* Coordinate inspection activities with QA/QC and client representatives.
* Verify line routing, slope requirements, elevations, and coordinates before installation.
* Ensure completion of hydrotesting, flushing, reinstatement, and documentation requirements.
* Review and close punch points related to UG piping systems.
Safety Management
* Enforce HSE requirements and safe work practices during excavation and piping activities.
* Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings.
* Ensure proper implementation of permit-to-work systems.
* Monitor trench safety, shoring, barricading, and excavation controls.
Coordination & Reporting
* Attend client and contractor coordination meetings.
* Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
* Track productivity, material consumption, and resource utilization.
* Highlight risks, constraints, and recovery plans to project management.
Technical Skills
* Strong knowledge of UG piping installation practices.
* Familiarity with carbon steel, HDPE, GRE/GRP, RTRP, ductile iron, and utility piping systems.
* Understanding of excavation, trenching, bedding, backfilling, and compaction requirements.
* Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as ASME, ASTM, API, IS, and project specifications.
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings, isometrics, and survey data.
* Experience in hydrotesting, pre-commissioning, and mechanical completion activities.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
* Minimum 15 years of experience in industrial construction projects.
* At least 10-15 years of experience in a UG piping works.
* Experience in refinery, petrochemical, chemical, LNG, fertilizer, industrial or oil & gas projects is preferred.
* Experience working on large EPC projects and brownfield/greenfield developments.

Pay: ₹40,000.00 - ₹60,000.00 per month
