As a Junior Process Chemist, you'll be at the forefront of our innovation, driving safe and efficient chemical manufacturing operations in a dynamic plant environment. You'll collaborate with a diverse group of passionate individuals to deliver sustainable solutions to advance mobility, improve wellbeing, and enhance modern life. In this role, you will:
- Operate process units safely in compliance with PPE requirements and established safety procedures.
- Process chemical products according to batch sheet instructions using manual and Distributed Control System (DCS) operations.
- Perform loading, unloading, and sampling of materials including tank trucks, tank cars, and drums.
- Monitor and record process parameters and production data accurately.
- Enter production data into Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as SAP.
- Report near misses, incidents, high potential incidents (HPI), and deviations, and support root cause analysis and troubleshooting.
- Provide ideas for process optimization and operational improvements.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance Laboratory (QAL) and Maintenance teams for smooth operations.
- Maintain equipment condition through housekeeping and minor maintenance activities.
- Prepare equipment for maintenance, issue permits, and support safe handover and trial runs.
- Monitor work under permits and ensure compliance within the unit.
- Maintain housekeeping standards across plant areas.
- Participate in emergency response, safety audits, Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP), and Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications that Enable Your Success
- Diploma in Chemical Engineering with a strong academic record
- 1–5 years of experience in the chemical industry, preferably within a specialty chemicals environment.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials handling and safety procedures including Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
- Experience with plant operations, including handling hazardous chemicals and Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
- Basic understanding of process instrumentation and mechanical equipment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to plan, prioritize tasks, and work independently while demonstrating initiative.
- Proven problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with standard business systems.
- Awareness of environmental regulations and safety practices in the process industry.
