The Role
We are seeking a highly technical, hands-on Senior Process Design Engineer to lead the core design phase of our vacuum system packages. In this role, you aren’t just a "simulator operator"—you are the architect of the system. You will be responsible for the fundamental physics and chemistry of our solutions, ensuring that every gas interaction is accounted for and every piece of technology selected is the most efficient, cost-effective, and robust solution for our Oil & Gas clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Architecture: Perform comprehensive Heat and Mass Balance calculations for complex gas mixtures under varying pressure and temperature regimes.
- Technology Selection: Evaluate and select the optimal vacuum technology (e.g., Steam Ejectors, Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps, Dry Screw Pumps, or Hybrid Systems) based on process fluid behaviour, utilities, and lifecycle costs.
- Gas Dynamics: Analyse the behaviour of condensable and non-condensable gases, accounting for phase changes, vapor pressure curves, and potential corrosive interactions with system materials.
- Interdisciplinary Leadership: Develop the Process Design Basis and Operating Logic that will serve as the "source of truth" for our Mechanical and Electrical engineering teams.
- System Sizing: Carry out rigorous sizing of inter-condensers, separators, piping, and control valves.
- Optimization: Conduct "Pro vs. Con" technical audits of different configurations to deliver the most commercially viable and technically sound package.
Required Technical Skills
- Vacuum Expertise: Deep understanding of vacuum physics (Torr/mbar ranges) and the performance curves of different vacuum-producing equipment.
- Calculation Fluency: Mastery of manual and software-based calculations for fluid flow, heat transfer, and thermodynamics.
- Software Proficiency: Experience with industry-standard simulation tools (like Aspen HYSYS or HTRI), though the ability to perform first-principle "sanity check" calculations is mandatory.
- Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with API (e.g., API 681), ASME, and HEI standards relevant to vacuum systems and pressure vessels.
Candidate Profile
- Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical engineering.
- Experience: 8–12+ years in process design, specifically within the Oil & Gas or Petrochemical sectors.
- Mindset: You are a "Calculations First" engineer. You understand that the mechanical and electrical teams can only succeed if your process design is flawless.
- Problem Solver: You don’t just identify a vacuum drop; you identify why it’s happening based on gas behaviour and propose the fix.
