Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Marine Fabricator to join our shipbuilding and ship repair team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, modifying, and repairing steel and aluminum structures, ensuring all work is completed according to engineering drawings, classification society standards, and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Measure, mark, cut, shape, and fit steel and aluminum plates, pipes, and structural components.
- Fabricate and assemble ship hull structures, bulkheads, decks, foundations, and other marine components.
- Perform repair and replacement of damaged ship structures during dry dock and afloat repairs.
- Operate fabrication equipment such as cutting machines, grinders, bending machines, hydraulic presses, and power tools.
- Carry out tack welding where required before final welding.
- Ensure dimensional accuracy and quality of fabricated components.
- Coordinate with welders, fitters, supervisors, and quality inspectors during fabrication activities.
- Follow approved work procedures and comply with classification society and client specifications.
- Maintain housekeeping and ensure compliance with all safety regulations and PPE requirements.
- Report fabrication issues, material shortages, or equipment defects to the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- ITI / Diploma in Fabrication, Fitter, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
- Certification in fabrication or metalworking is an added advantage.
Experience
- Freshers to 5 years of experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, offshore, heavy engineering, or structural fabrication.
- Experience in marine fabrication is preferred.
Required Skills
- Ability to read fabrication drawings and marine structural plans.
- Knowledge of shipbuilding fabrication techniques.
- Proficiency in using fabrication tools and equipment.
- Understanding of steel and aluminum fabrication.
- Knowledge of dimensional tolerances and quality standards.
- Good problem-solving and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights when required.
- Physically fit to perform fabrication activities in a shipyard environment.
Preferred Knowledge
- Shipbuilding and ship repair procedures.
- Marine structural fabrication standards.
- Basic knowledge of welding processes.
- Familiarity with classification society requirements (ABS, DNV, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, etc.) is an advantage.
Working Conditions
- Shipyard, dry dock, offshore, or onboard vessel environment.
- Rotational shifts and overtime may be required based on project schedules.
- Work may involve outdoor conditions, confined spaces, and heights.
