About the Project
Welfare and Empowerment of Tribal People through Large Area Multi-Purpose Cooperative Societies (WE-LAMPS) in West Bengal. The project aims at empowering tribal community in West Bengal through collective engagement in LAMPS and with improved access to livelihoods, financial inclusion, and access to government support services for tribal communities, with special emphasis on women and Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Communities (PVTGs).
About the Role
The Program Associate will play a key role in strengthening community institutions and ensuring effective grassroots implementation of the WE-LAMPS project. The position requires close engagement with LAMPS, Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and other Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to enhance their institutional capacity, sustainability, and access to entitlements.
The role involves field-based coordination, capacity building, stakeholder engagement, convergence with government schemes, documentation of best practices, and proactive problem-solving to ensure smooth implementation of project activities. The candidate must be willing to stay within or close to the project area and work directly with tribal communities.
Job Profile
- Provide thematic and operational support for institutional strengthening of LAMPS, SHGs, and other CBOs.
- Coordinate and oversee day-to-day implementation of project activities at the field level.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government departments, local self-governments, training agencies, and research institutions.
- Facilitate access to government schemes and ensure convergence for LAMPS and CBOs.
- Organize and ensure effective implementation of trainings, meetings, and community campaigns as per project ToR.
- Train LAMPS members on sustainability strategies, governance, and business development.
- Supervise and support Community Educators in planning and execution of activities.
- Identify field-level challenges and develop practical solutions for effective coordination.
- Conduct regular field visits and prepare qualitative and analytical field reports.
- Document case studies, success stories, and best practices aligned with project outcomes.
- Support day-to-day operational and programmatic requirements of the project.
Educational Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Rural Development, Sociology, Development Studies, Education, or related field.
- Master’s degree in relevant discipline will be an added advantage.
Experience:
- Minimum 2–4 years of relevant experience in rural or tribal development projects.
- Experience in working with SHGs, cooperatives, producer groups, or community institutions preferred.
- Exposure to government schemes, livelihood promotion, and financial inclusion initiatives desirable.
- Experience in capacity building and training facilitation at community level.
Language Requirement (Mandatory):
- Fluency in Bengali is essential.
- Ability to communicate effectively in local tribal dialects will be an added advantage.
