Vandanam Trust | Non-Governmental Organization (NGO)
Role Type: Volunteer Position / No Monetary Incentive
Time Commitment: Minimum 2 focused hours per day
Work Mode: Remote / Flexible
Reporting To: Senior Leadership Team
Primary Focus: Building the HR structure, systems, processes, and talent foundation of Vandanam Trust
Role Purpose
Vandanam Trust is a non-governmental organization currently in its foundation, organizing, and structuring phase. The organization is working toward building a strong ecosystem of people, leaders, professionals, and contributors who can collectively contribute to meaningful social development.
Vandanam Trust is guided by the philosophy of “Human to Human – Bringing Humanity Closer,” along with the values of Sankalp & Samriddhi, and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. The organization aims to bring together capable and socially conscious individuals who believe in contributing their knowledge, experience, and capabilities toward a larger purpose.
At this stage, one of the organization's important priorities is to establish a strong and well-structured Human Resource function.
We are therefore looking for an experienced Volunteer – Human Resource Manager who can work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to understand the organization's current position, immediate priorities, and future requirements and help build the HR foundation accordingly.
This is not a conventional HR role focused only on recruitment or employee administration. The person will be expected to contribute toward requirement analysis, organizational structuring, manpower planning, role definition, recruitment systems, HR processes, SOPs, talent pipelines, and people management frameworks.
The ideal candidate should be capable of understanding an evolving organization and helping create the right people structure and systems required for its long-term growth.
Requirements Needed
The Human Resource Manager will first be expected to understand and analyze the organization's requirements before developing or implementing HR systems.
This will involve understanding:
- The current stage and structure of Vandanam Trust.
- The organization's mission and immediate priorities.
- The functions, departments, and roles currently required.
- Immediate hiring and volunteer requirements.
- Future manpower and leadership requirements.
- Skills and expertise needed across different functions.
- Existing gaps in the organizational structure.
- Roles that require clear responsibilities, KRAs, and KPIs.
- The reporting and accountability structure required within the organization.
Based on this requirement analysis, the HR Manager will help the Senior Leadership Team identify what kind of people are required, why they are required, what skills and experience they should possess, and how they should fit into the organizational structure.
The role will also involve helping build:
- Clear job descriptions and role requirements.
- Recruitment and talent acquisition processes.
- A structured talent pipeline.
- HR policies and basic people-management systems.
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for important HR activities.
- Onboarding and role allocation processes.
- Reporting and accountability mechanisms.
- A structured database and documentation system for candidates and contributors.
The candidate will be expected to dedicate at least 2 focused hours daily and provide regular daily progress reports to the Senior Leadership Team regarding work completed, observations, pending tasks, and next steps.
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for a mature, experienced, and purpose-driven professional who can contribute strategically to building the HR foundation of a growing NGO.
The ideal person should be:
- Highly proactive and able to take initiative rather than waiting for detailed instructions.
- Comfortable working in an organization that is still being structured and developed.
- Capable of identifying organizational and people-related gaps.
- Experienced in analyzing manpower and organizational requirements.
- Able to build practical HR systems and processes from the ground up.
- Strategic in thinking while also being capable of practical execution.
- Strong in recruitment, talent assessment, and people management.
- Able to define clear roles, responsibilities, and reporting structures.
- Comfortable creating and improving HR processes and SOPs.
- Strong in professional communication and relationship management.
- Mature enough to work closely with Senior Leadership and provide independent professional input.
- Organized and disciplined in documentation, follow-up, and execution.
- Able to maintain accountability and structured reporting.
- Socially conscious and genuinely interested in contributing to meaningful change.
- Aligned with the broader purpose and values of Vandanam Trust.
- Comfortable working independently for a focused commitment of at least 2 hours daily.
The person should understand that, since Vandanam Trust is still in its structuring phase, the role may require flexibility, problem-solving, and the ability to help create clarity where systems and structures are still evolving.
Experience and Background Requirement

Formal qualifications in Human Resources, Management, Organizational Development, or related fields would be valuable. However, extensive practical experience, leadership maturity, strategic understanding, and demonstrated expertise will also be strongly considered.
Personal and Purpose Alignment
This is a volunteer position with no monetary incentive.
Therefore, we are looking for an individual who is professionally and economically stable and is in a position to contribute their time, knowledge, and experience without financial dependence on this role.
