Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery / Heart & Lung Institute
The Consultant CVTS Surgeon is responsible for providing expert surgical care for complex diseases affecting the heart, great vessels, lungs, mediastinum, and chest wall. This role encompasses the entire spectrum of open-heart, minimally invasive, and thoracic procedures, ensuring high-quality perioperative management and surgical precision to optimize patient survival and rehabilitation.
Surgical Interventions (Cardiac & Vascular):
Perform routine and complex adult cardiac surgeries, including Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) (both on-pump and off-pump/beating-heart techniques).
Execute valvular surgeries, including Aortic/Mitral Valve Repairs and Replacements.
Manage surgeries of the great vessels, such as aortic aneurysm repairs and aortic dissection management.
Thoracic & Vascular Interventions:
Perform thoracic surgeries, including lobectomies, pneumonectomies, mediastinal tumor excisions, and decortications.
Address peripheral vascular emergencies or trauma repairs when required.
Pre- and Post-Operative Critical Care:
Lead the comprehensive management of patients in the CTICU (Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit), closely monitoring hemodynamic parameters, ventilator settings, inotropic support, and chest drainage.
Manage post-operative complications such as arrhythmias, low cardiac output syndrome, or tamponade.
Emergency & On-Call Coverage: Provide immediate surgical coverage for acute cardiac emergencies, mechanical complications of myocardial infarction, or severe chest trauma.
Multidisciplinary Heart Team Collaboration: Collaborate seamlessly with Interventional Cardiologists, Cardiac Anesthetists, Perfusionists, Critical Care Specialists, and Rehabilitative teams to establish the safest clinical pathway for every patient.
Flawless microsurgical skills and exceptional manual dexterity required for coronary anastomoses and delicate tissue handling.
In-depth knowledge of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) mechanics, intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), and ECMO initiation/management.
Extreme emotional resilience and rapid, logical decision-making capabilities under critical, life-or-death operating room scenarios.
Excellent leadership skills to manage and guide a complex, multidisciplinary theater and ICU team.
