Senior Network & Systems Engineer
Emdee Digitronics | Kolkata | Full Time, Permanent
Department: IT Infrastructure & Project Delivery
Experience: 6 to 10 years
Industry: IT Services & Consulting (System Integration)
About the Role
Emdee is a 20+ year old system integrator delivering IT infrastructure, software, security and surveillance, IT-enabled services, and manpower solutions primarily to government and public sector clients. It is headquartered in Kolkata and has presence in multiple states.
The Senior Network & Systems Engineer owns the technical correctness of what Emdee designs and installs. The role reads tender specifications, floor plans and survey data, designs the infrastructure that fits, builds and validates the technical BOQ, and sees the design through to a commissioned site. It combines design work with supervision of deployments across project locations, including direct involvement in the more complex ones.
Key Responsibilities
Design, Sizing and BOQ
- Design IT infrastructure architecture from site and floor plans, drawings, and survey data: network topology, IP schema, device placement and cable routing, PoE and power budgets, and storage and bandwidth sizing
- Read tender and client specifications and translate them into a compliant technical solution, supporting the bid function with compliance responses, OEM and product selection, and alternates against restrictive specifications
- Build and validate technical BOQs including make and model selection, quantity derivation across sites, passive and accessory items, and installation and service line items, working with procurement and OEMs on specification confirmation and budgetary pricing
- Produce design documents, topology drawings, and installation standards that the field team executes against
Survey and Technical Validation
- Plan site surveys, define what must be captured, and vet findings for completeness and accuracy
- Validate BOQ and design assumptions against actual site conditions, and flag variance, shortfalls, and scope risk before execution commits
Execution and Supervision
- Supervise deployment across project sites and take direct charge of complex or critical installations, setting the execution standard for the field team
- Own commissioning where technical depth is required across networking, surveillance and biometrics, servers and storage, endpoints and peripherals, and AV and smart classroom systems, and resolve faults escalated by field engineers
- Coordinate site readiness, material accountability, and installation sequencing with the delivery and procurement teams
- Drive acceptance testing, snag closure, client handover, and as-built documentation to a standard that stands up to departmental inspection
Team, OEM and Standards
- Guide and develop field engineers on installation quality, configuration practice, and documentation discipline, and set the technical standards, configuration baselines, and documentation practice they work to
- Manage OEM technical engagement: product fitment, specification and budgetary pricing inputs, support escalation, defect resolution, warranty and RMA
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, Electrical, or a related engineering discipline
- 6 to 10 years in IT infrastructure and network engineering, with demonstrated experience designing and executing multi-site deployments
- Experience with a system integrator, IT OEM, or infrastructure services company. Government and PSU project experience preferred
- Ability to design infrastructure from floor plans, drawings, and survey data: topology, device placement, cable routing, IP schema, PoE and power budgeting, and storage and bandwidth sizing
- Proven ability to build and validate technical BOQs, including make and model selection, quantity derivation across sites, and passive and accessory items
- Strong hands-on depth across active and passive networking: managed and PoE switching, routing, VLANs, DHCP and DNS, firewalls and VPN, wireless, structured cabling, fibre and UTP, patch panels, racks, and cable management
- Practical experience across IP surveillance and NVR systems, biometric devices, servers and storage, UPS and power, endpoints and peripherals, and AV, video conferencing and smart classroom systems
- Working familiarity with OEM ecosystems across networking, surveillance, compute, and power, including product fitment, specification and budgetary price discovery, support escalation, and warranty processes
- Experience supervising field engineers and vendors on site, with accountability for installation quality and schedule
- Ability to read tender specifications and respond on technical compliance
- Documentation discipline: topology drawings, as-built records, IP and asset registers, and handover documents
- Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent are an advantage
- Based in Kolkata or willing to relocate. Travel to project sites across states is a requirement of this role
