Position Overview
Optics & Allied Engg. Pvt. Ltd. is looking for a proactive and technically sound Senior Purchase Engineer to manage procurement activities for engineering materials, components, machined parts, bought-out items, consumables and services.
The candidate will be responsible for vendor development, sourcing, quotation evaluation, negotiation, purchase order management, delivery follow-up and coordination with Engineering, Production, Quality, Stores and Accounts to ensure timely availability of materials at competitive prices and required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Procurement & Purchase Activities
- Handle end-to-end procurement activities for engineering and manufacturing requirements.
- Source raw materials, machined components, fabricated parts, standard components, bought-out items, consumables and other engineering materials.
- Review purchase requisitions (PR) and generate purchase orders (PO) as per approved requirements.
- Obtain and compare quotations from multiple suppliers.
- Ensure timely procurement as per production/project requirements.
2. Vendor Development & Management
- Identify, evaluate and develop new vendors based on quality, cost, delivery and technical capability.
- Maintain and update the approved vendor list.
- Conduct vendor evaluations and performance reviews.
- Develop alternate sources for critical materials and components.
- Maintain professional relationships with suppliers and resolve procurement-related issues.
3. Cost & Commercial Management
- Negotiate prices, payment terms, delivery schedules and other commercial conditions with suppliers.
- Analyse quotations and prepare comparative statements.
- Identify cost-reduction opportunities through alternate vendors, materials and sourcing strategies.
- Ensure procurement is carried out within approved budgets and commercial guidelines.
4. Technical Purchase
- Understand engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs and material requirements.
- Coordinate with Engineering and Quality teams regarding technical specifications and vendor capabilities.
- Ensure purchased components conform to required specifications and quality requirements.
- Coordinate with suppliers for technical clarifications and drawing/specification-related queries.
5. Delivery & Follow-up
- Closely monitor supplier delivery schedules.
- Follow up with vendors for on-time delivery of materials.
- Coordinate with Production, Planning, Stores and Projects teams to understand urgent and critical requirements.
- Escalate delivery delays and take corrective action with suppliers.
6. Quality Coordination
- Coordinate with the Quality Department regarding supplier quality issues, rejections and corrective actions.
- Follow up with suppliers for replacement/rework of rejected materials.
- Support supplier quality improvement initiatives.
7. Documentation & MIS
- Maintain purchase orders, quotations, comparative statements and supplier records.
- Prepare purchase-related MIS and reports.
- Maintain proper procurement documentation for audit and management review.
- Ensure compliance with company purchase procedures and approval processes.
Required Skills

- Good understanding of engineering materials and mechanical components.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, BOMs and technical specifications.
- Strong vendor development and negotiation skills.

- Strong follow-up skills for timely material delivery.
- Good knowledge of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems will be an advantage.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple procurement requirements.

Qualification
Essential:

Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate should be a B.E./B.Tech. Mechanical Engineer with 3-5 years of hands-on purchase experience, preferably from a manufacturing/engineering industry, who can independently handle vendor sourcing, technical procurement, negotiation, PO processing and delivery follow-up while coordinating effectively with internal departments.
Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
