Position Summary
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall management, maintenance, safety, and operational efficiency of the school's infrastructure and engineering services. The role involves overseeing electrical, plumbing, HVAC, water supply, sewage treatment, civil works, fire safety systems, power backup systems, and campus maintenance to ensure a safe, functional, and conducive environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Key ResponsibilitiesInfrastructure & Maintenance Management
- Ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of all school buildings, hostels, staff residences, and common areas.
- Supervise preventive and corrective maintenance activities across the campus.
- Monitor the condition of infrastructure and recommend repairs, renovations, and upgrades.
- Maintain records of all maintenance schedules, inspections, and repairs.
Electrical & Mechanical Systems
- Oversee the functioning of electrical systems, transformers, DG sets, UPS systems, and power distribution networks.
- Ensure uninterrupted water supply through pumps, borewells, storage tanks, and distribution systems.
- Monitor HVAC systems, kitchen equipment, laundry machinery, and other mechanical installations.
- Ensure optimal utilization of energy resources and implement energy-saving initiatives.
Fire & Safety Compliance
- Ensure that all fire safety systems are functional and compliant with statutory requirements.
- Conduct periodic safety audits and risk assessments.
- Coordinate fire drills and emergency preparedness activities.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and engineering regulations.
Civil Works & Projects
- Plan and supervise construction, renovation, and civil maintenance projects.
- Coordinate with contractors, consultants, architects, and vendors.
- Monitor project timelines, quality standards, and budgets.
- Verify bills, work completion reports, and contractor performance.
Team Management
- Lead and supervise engineering, maintenance, electrical, plumbing, and housekeeping support staff.
- Allocate duties and monitor staff performance.
- Conduct regular training on safety procedures and maintenance standards.
- Foster a culture of accountability, efficiency, and teamwork.
Vendor & Inventory Management
- Manage Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMCs) and service agreements.
- Source and coordinate with vendors for repairs and procurement.
- Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, spare parts, and consumables.
- Ensure cost-effective purchasing and inventory control.
Budgeting & Reporting
- Prepare annual maintenance budgets and monitor expenditures.
- Submit periodic reports on maintenance activities, projects, and infrastructure status.
- Recommend capital expenditure for infrastructure improvements and modernization.
Sustainability & Environmental Management
- Monitor water conservation and waste management initiatives.
- Ensure proper functioning of STP, WTP, rainwater harvesting systems, and other environmental facilities.
- Promote sustainable engineering practices across the campus.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Additional certifications in facility management, fire safety, or project management will be an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 10–15 years of experience in engineering, facility management, or infrastructure maintenance.
- Experience in residential schools, educational institutions, hospitality, hospitals, large campuses, or corporate facilities preferred.
- Proven experience in managing multidisciplinary maintenance teams.
