CSSD Technician – Job Description A CSSD (Central Sterile Services Department) Technician is responsible for the cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment to ensure patient safety and infection control. Key Responsibilities Receive and sort used surgical instruments and equipment. Clean instruments manually and using washer-disinfectors. Inspect instruments for cleanliness, damage, and functionality. Assemble instrument sets and procedure trays. Pack and label instruments for sterilization. Operate sterilization equipment such as autoclaves. Monitor and document sterilization processes. Perform biological, chemical, and mechanical monitoring tests. Store sterile items properly and maintain inventory. Distribute sterile supplies to operating rooms and hospital departments. Follow infection control policies and safety standards. Maintain accurate records and reports related to sterilization activities. Skills Required Knowledge of sterilization and disinfection procedures. Understanding of infection prevention and control practices. Ability to identify surgical instruments. Attention to detail and accuracy. Good communication and teamwork skills. Basic computer and documentation skills. Qualification Diploma/Certificate in CSSD Technology or related healthcare field. Knowledge of hospital sterilization standards and protocols.
